DIY (Do it yourself): Wall-Mounted Herb Garden
|
Looking for a stylish way to grow fresh herbs right in your kitchen or living space? Our DIY Wall-Mounted Herb Garden is the perfect solution! Not only does it add rustic charm to any wall, but it also makes your cooking more flavorful and enjoyable with herbs like basil, mint, rosemary, and more—always within reach.
Here’s how to customize your own herb garden:
What You’ll Need:
- Wooden Crates or Pallets: Find these at craft stores, thrift shops, or repurpose old boxes you have lying around.
- Small Pots or Mason Jars: Choose traditional terracotta pots, mason jars, or even old cans for a quirky touch.
- Hooks: Use sturdy hooks or screws to attach your pots to the crate or pallet.
- Herbs: Pick your favorites—basil, rosemary, thyme, mint, parsley, or oregano.
- Potting Soil: Be sure to choose a well-draining soil mix.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Prepare Your Crate or Pallet: Sand it smooth, and consider painting or staining it for a polished look, or leave it natural for a rustic feel.
- Attach the Pots: Arrange your pots on the crate and secure them with hooks or screws. Make sure everything is stable and secure.
- Plant Your Herbs: Fill each pot with soil and plant your herbs. Leave some space at the top for watering.
- Hang It Up: Position your herb garden in a sunny spot (herbs need 6-8 hours of sunlight daily) and hang it securely on the wall.
- Water and Enjoy: Keep the herbs watered, ensuring they have good drainage to prevent waterlogging. Trim and harvest them as needed for fresh cooking.
Additional Tips:
- For a uniform look, use identical pots; for more character, mix and match different styles.
- Add a drip tray underneath the crate to catch excess water.
- Hang your herb garden in the kitchen, dining area, or even a sunny hallway to brighten up any space.
This easy DIY project will bring greenery and flavor into your home, making your meals fresher and your space more vibrant! Happy gardening! 🌿

Talking About In-Home Care
|
There are often signs that an older adult needs some help around the home. If you notice something, what should you do? The mere thought of approaching a conversation with a friend or loved one about in-home care can be intimidating but it is necessary.
Being proactive can make this a positive experience for everyone, especially since procrastinating after noticing warning signs can increase the possibility of an emergency situation happening. Keep the tone of the conversation casual and open. By making this an open dialogue and exchange of ideas, you’ll be able to listen to your loved one’s thoughts, concerns and desires regarding their future and in-home care.
Older adults often may realize that they need some help around the house but are hesitant to bring it up since they don’t want to be a burden or to lose their independence. By introducing the idea of in-home care, you may learn that they are relieved to hear that there is an option that means they can stay in their home, where they feel the most comfortable.
One important tip is to start talking about in-home care before the situation becomes critical or a medical situation requires attention. This strategy could even help to mitigate hospital admissions by addressing care concerns before something happens.
We understand the stress that families experience when older adults aren’t safe in their homes. We’re so proud of our professional caregivers who are able to provide support for older adults to age in place with dignity and comfort.
