Gift Basket Donations Needed!

The District 6360 Conference is scheduled for May 3-4, 2024 at the Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo and we are already making preparations for a great event! An important part of this is the Basket Raffle, with gift baskets donated by the individual clubs and all proceeds this year going to the Magenta Girls Initiative!

Our goal, aside from raising more than our total from last year ($1,777), is to have even MORE baskets available to win! If you have provided a basket in the past, THANK YOU! We hope you will continue your generous support. If you have not contributed a gift basket, this is your invitation to start a new tradition by doing so this year. All you have to do is find a creative person (or a few) from your club willing to put together a gift basket as your club's contribution.

The baskets should be brought to the Radisson Hotel by the start of the convention on May 3rd. The value of each gift basket should be between $100 - $150. Also, we'll need an estimated value for any items donated for your basket, as well as a price for items purchased, for our state raffle license. We'll also want to know what theme your basket will have ahead of time so we can make you a sign!

Please email Ingrid Nova at rotary6360@gmail.com if your club is able to donate!!

Rotary Float in the Rose Parade

The Rotary International float in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade is undoubtedly the largest public relations project of the Rotary clubs of the United States and Canada. Since 1924 a Rotary float has been entered 18 times including every year since 1981. The famous Pasadena, California, parade is seen by an estimated 125 million people via worldwide television.

Funds for the construction of the Rotary parade entry are voluntarily given by Rotarians and clubs in the U.S. and Canada. The cost of designing, constructing and flower covering a Rose Parade float begins at about $120,000.

A multi-district Rotary committee in Southern California coordinates planning of the Rotary float and provides hundreds of volunteer hours of service. The Rotary float must portray the annual parade theme, usually depicting one of the worldwide service programs of Rotary International. Each New Year's Day, Rotarians take pride in seeing their attractive float and realize they have shared in its construction by contributing a dollar or two to this beautiful public relations project.

This training is a wonderful gift to Rotarians. MHFA trainings typically cost $25 per person. Corewell Health is generously making this three-year certification exclusively available to D6360 Rotarians at no charge – including lunch! It would be a lost opportunity not to take advantage of this. The training falls perfectly in line with our Mental Health Committee’s goal to enable all members to be certified in Mental Health First Aid; which parallels RI President Gordon McInally’s Mental Health platform of raising awareness; erasing stigma; and improving access

For more information about Mental Health First Aid Training, feel free to view the video Mental Health Webinar | February 2024 - YouTube distributed by The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

And, remember to register by emailing: jacquie@pdispirit.com.

Together, we will Create Hope

Rotary Raising Funds for South Haven’s

We Care Home Heating

Assistance Program

The snow and cold that returned to downtown South Haven on Saturday did not deter the South Haven Rotary Club’s fund raising efforts. The Rotary Club of South Haven partnered with We Care and other civic groups to raise funds to assist families who need help with their heating expenses this winter.

The Rotary Club of South Haven has participated in the “Island Sit” for many years in all types of weather. The friendliness and the generosity of the community provide the warmth to keep us returning each year. That and many layers of clothing.

We are so proud of the Gull Lake Middle School Interact Club for raising $476 to help our local homeless community. This morning they learned about the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries and presented them with a check from the club’s fundraisers. Service Above Self.

Jackson Breakfast Rotary Club

Dine In or Take Out Fundraiser

Mixing Together a Tasty Club Social, Public Image

Positivity, & Fundraising Fun-

All While Celebrating and Supporting our Local Restaurants!

The Jackson Breakfast Club has decided to have a monthly Fundraiser and Social time. The fourth Tuesday of each month they work with different eating establishments who have programs of donating back to charities anywhere from 10%-20%.

Flyers and emails are sent out with details of how to let the server know you are part of that program (every restaurant is a bit different). Most allow both Dine-in and take out to be included in the fundraiser.

Club members are encouraged to share with their family, co-worker, and neighbors the flyers about how part of their dinner will help us with our Rotary projects.

Most of the time many Rotarians are eating at the same time with their families and end up having fun while eating. And the local eateries are getting to know Rotary and a bit more about what we do.

So far, they have been averaging about $150 a month which does not seem like much but when added together adds up for a small club. “It’s not much work for the money earned and who doesn’t like to eat!” states Al Mellinger current Club President.
