Message from SEAMASS President Doug Antholz, SE
Happy 2021! Your SEAMASS Board of Directors and I wish you a happy and healthy New Year. With your support, SEAMASS pivoted in 2020 to offer continued connection and a sense of community while continuing to provide seminars and learning opportunities during the pandemic.

Since last Fall, SEAMASS has successfully:

  • Planned & hosted 17 Virtual Professional Development Opportunities featuring 20 presenters and 12 Event Sponsors.
  • Filled 992 virtual "seats" at webinar-series events with 392 participants from beyond Massachusetts.

  • Distributed 846 PDH credits via certificates of SEAMASS or NCSEA-Diamond Certified participation
Our Board and Committees continue to meet virtually, and our webinar platform enables us to widen our reach to feature and engage presenters, participants, and sponsors from across the U.S. and Europe. We continue to plan exciting forward programs based on attendee feedback and member requests.

In this issue of SEAMASS News, we recap events and provide updates on initiatives such as SE3, as well as our support of Women in Restoration & Engineering (WiRE) as their 2021 symposium goes virtual.  We also profile a fellow member, share YMG and member news, promote career opportunities, and welcome new members.

Let’s Keep Up the Good Work Together
SEAMASS exists to support the structural engineering community through education, advocacy, and service. Our continuing efforts to produce quality professional development opportunities, award scholarships to aspiring engineers, and support our committee initiatives are funded solely by SEAMASS annual memberships and sponsorships, and event-participant fees.

Here is our Challenge to You, our Fellow Engineering Firms and Engineers
Please consider becoming a member, which allows us to support you. There are several member options but we’d like to highlight two, focused on engineering firms and engineers. For $350 your firm can become a Business Sponsor, which also includes one personal membership. Here's a list of sponsor benefits. The other option is our Professional or Associate Membership, for $50 annually.

Thank you for your continued support of our vibrant organization and industry.
Sincerely,
Doug Antholz, SE | SEAMASS President

Meet a Member: Nate Roy, PE
SEAMASS Director 2020-2023
Nathan Roy, PE is a Principal at LeMessurier with more than 13 years of experience in structural design of new buildings, renovation of historic structures, and specialty construction support. He has been teaching Structures at the Boston Architectural College for the last 11 years. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of MA Amherst.
Nate has answered the questions below, so we may get to know him better. Thank you, Nate, for your dedication to SEAMASS as a Director, and for your contributions to the Structural Engineering profession!
Q: Why did you join SEAMASS?
A: I joined SEAMASS because I want to meaningfully contribute to serving SEAMASS and its mission to promote consistent communication and education opportunities in the structural engineering community. I enjoy participating in SEAMASS professional development events to expand my understanding of the profession and interact with colleagues who are not in my current day-to-day network. The more we interact, communicate, and share as a community the better we are all served. As a SEAMASS member I hope to continue this mission and help to find new and fun ways we can support the community to create a diverse, inclusive, and well-balanced group.

Q: As an engineer, what accomplishments are you most proud of?
A: I have been very fortunate to have worked on a lot of amazing projects throughout my career. The projects I am most proud of are the public ones that I can share with my children. These include the transformation to the Boston Public Library Johnson Building, Martins Park adjacent to the Boston Children's Museum, and work in the Museum of Science. I have also had the opportunity to work on several new buildings at my alma mater, the University of Massachusetts Amherst where I am able to share my experience with... READ MORE
