I am deeply honored to step into the role of President of the Structural Engineers Association of Massachusetts. It is a privilege to serve this vibrant community of professionals dedicated to shaping the built environment with excellence, innovation, and integrity.
First, I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to our immediate Past President, David Schnerch, Ph.D, PE, for his outstanding leadership, vision, and service. Under his guidance, SEAMASS made significant strides in expanding professional development opportunities, strengthening industry partnerships, and elevating the profile of structural engineers throughout the Commonwealth. On behalf of the entire membership, thank you for your dedication and commitment.
| | |
Looking ahead, I am excited to share the priorities that will guide our association during the coming term:
Supporting Career Growth and Organizational Development
We will place strong emphasis on advancing the careers of our members at every stage—from emerging professionals to seasoned engineers. Expect expanded mentoring programs, leadership training, and technical seminars designed to sharpen our skills and grow our impact. At the same time, we aim to grow our organization by actively welcoming new members and strengthening our network.
To ensure we are aligning our programming with your needs, we will be distributing a member survey in the coming weeks. This will help us identify the topics and techniques that matter most to you, so we can shape our future presentations and webinars around your professional growth priorities.
Embracing Innovation and Technology
The landscape of structural engineering is evolving rapidly. We will focus on integrating new technologies into our practice—particularly the use of Artificial Intelligence, data-driven design, and sustainable strategies to combat the growing challenges of climate change. We recognize that the rise of AI and automation brings both opportunities and understandable concerns, especially regarding its impact on the future of engineering jobs. Rather than viewing these changes with fear, SEAMASS is committed to helping our members stay ahead of the curve. We will provide educational resources, expert-led webinars, and open forums to explore how AI can enhance—not replace—our professional capabilities. Our goal is to ensure every member feels empowered to adapt, innovate, and lead in this new era of engineering. By working together, we can shape how these tools serve our profession, rather than letting them define it for us.
Fostering Collaboration and Engagement
We believe in the power of collaboration. Over the next year, we will strengthen our relationships with other professional organizations across the design and construction industry. We will also increase our outreach to college student chapters, ensuring that the next generation of structural engineers is informed, inspired, and connected to our community.
Supporting SEAMASS Through Membership and Sponsorship
As we strive to elevate the value we deliver to our members and the broader engineering community, we kindly urge all members to renew their membership and consider encouraging peers and firms to join or sponsor SEAMASS. Your membership dues—alongside generous sponsorships from our industry partners—are critical to our success. These contributions directly enable us to bring in high-caliber speakers, host impactful webinars and events, offer scholarships to deserving college engineering students, and support the continued growth and outreach of our organization. Your support fuels everything we do, and we are grateful for your commitment to advancing structural engineering in Massachusetts.
I invite all members to be active participants in this exciting journey. Your ideas, feedback, and involvement are the lifeblood of our organization. Together, we can build a future where structural engineers lead with innovation, responsibility, and purpose.
Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me. I look forward to serving and growing with you.
Warm regards,
