Candid Conversations: Handing Over the Reins

"Candid Conversations: Handing Over the Reins" is a full-feature film that aims to address many questions and concerns parents and self-advocates may have around the transition from high school and into adulthood. You may even see some familiar names & faces!

The NY Collaborative partnered with colleagues from CIDA NY, Chinese-American Planning Council, and the New York DeafBlind Collaborative to proudly present a labor of love, a film supporting New York families supporting youth with disabilities in their endeavor to accomplish no small feat--transitioning to adulthood and understanding the importance of self-advocacy skills.

The entire film is 1 hour and 17 minutes, however, it is also divided into three smaller parts to facilitate viewing:

Part I: Hopes and Dreams

Part 2: Independence & Advocacy

Part 3: A Few Words of Advice

The Greater Newark Women's Assembly Honors Banquet Luncheon was held to celebrate Women's History Month and women's achievements. Community members, and civic and faith leaders choose women who serve as role models and provide service to the community as honorees. SPAN's own Ms. Shirley Johnson was selected as an honoree.

The event was an opportunity to highlight personal achievements, talents and contributions that benefit families' health and vitality and the community's greater good.

Congratulations to Ms. Shirley for this acknowledgment of her commitment to families!
