Awarded ESD Grants
Two Chemung County businesses were recently awarded over $450,000 in the most recent project award announcements - Chemung Supply Corporation Expansion and F.M Howell & Company.

Chemung Supply Corporation, located in the Village of Horseheads received an award to expand the production of their Evolution Edges division, which manufactures snowplow blades, in order to meet a growing demand. Chemung Supply plans to upgrade their existing facility and invest in new machinery.
F.M. Howell & Company, founded in 1883 in Chemung County is a family owned pharmaceutical packaging company. The Howell Packaging division, provides contract packaging services, specializing in the design and manufacture of folding cartons and rigid boxes. They plan to expand the company's folding carton production capacity and its market competitiveness with the purchase of new equipment.

IDA Academy Development Seminar

On November 10th Michelle VanDeBogart, Finance and Compliance Manager, and Ben Fleischman, Community Engagement Manager, attend the IDA Academy in Utica.

The event is part of continuing education offered through the New York State Economic Development Council to help keep staff up to date with the latest information related to industrial development agencies and economic development in general.

Our staff consistently strives to learn and grow on a daily basis. We are very grateful to have been able to attend this event.

New Energy New York
New Energy New York is a coalition funded by the Economic Development Administration to establish a national hub for battery innovation, manufacturing, and workforce development in Upstate New York.

The coalition, comprised of partners representing academia, non-profits, and government is starting up BATTERY-NY, a battery technology and manufacturing center to develop and enable the advanced manufacturing of battery technologies and establish a robust manufacturing infrastructure to support the battery industry and its supply chain.
The initiative includes the development of a Battery Technology and Manufacturing Center which will be located in Endicott and hosted by Binghamton University.

What does this mean for Chemung County? The impact is far reaching. Coalition members include Corning Community College and Incubator Works. The industry is expected to grow rapidly which will increase the demand for a qualified supply chain related to component manufacturing, storage, and battery recycling throughout the Southern Tier.

Its board of directors has over 65 members, over 75 percent are private business people working side-by-side with chief elected officials and education and community leaders to help create and retain jobs, sustaining a strong economy. It works with the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), a Public Benefit Corporation of the State of New York that was formed in 1975. The Chemung County IDA consists of a seven-member Board of Directors and provides a variety of tax incentives, financing, and/or related benefits to a broad range of eligible projects that provide a positive economic impact within Chemung County.
