FASTER INTERNET RAMPING UP IN THE REGION
In the past, your job’s location determined where you lived. With remote work on the rise, that is not necessarily the case anymore. The most competitive communities are turning to broadband and fiber optic internet to ensure both companies and their working families stay in their communities.
Chemung County is nearing full access to broadband now thanks to the efforts of companies like Spectrum, Haefele Connect and others. Local leaders are working hard to make sure that build out will soon be complete.
Empire Access is focused on bringing 'Optic Fiber' internet to the region as well to serve residents and businesses in parts of Elmira, Horseheads, Corning and Big Flats. Fiber optic cables carry more data at higher speeds than the copper cables typically used for broadband. Having them available locally will help attract and retain companies that regularly access cloud based programs or interact with widely dispersed employees.
Hunt Engineers Architects & Surveyors, which is located in Horseheads, has secured millions in USDA Reconnect Broadband funding for communities throughout the region. STEG works with companies like Hunt, county officials and other local partners to make sure developers know what internet services are available to them and how they can benefit their businesses.
Investing in this infrastructure will keep Chemung County on the forefront of new and expanding business opportunity as well as talent retention and attraction.
