Evaluating N4G Commitments in Francophone Africa
The SUN Movement Francophone Africa hub and Expertise France - with technical support from the consultancy firm IRAM - and through European Union funding (EU4SUN project), organized a validation workshop to validate key findings from the progress assessment of the 2021 N4G commitments conducted in 7 countries in Francophone Africa. The workshop brought together SUN government focal points and civil society representatives from the 7 countries, while the actual assessment of progress took place over several weeks and included a country visit to each country by IRAM consultants to support the analysis, with the participation of representatives from the national multisectoral nutrition platforms. The assessment identified several challenges, including the length of the registration process and data collection issues. Despite progress on half of the commitments, only a third are expected to be fully met. The workshop, attended by N4G Special Envoy Brieuc Pont, also focused on monitoring, evaluation and accountability in preparation for the Paris 2025 Summit. This is a pilot approach that will be scaled up and extended to other countries within the Francophone Africa region, but also in Latin America and Anglophone Africa through EU4SUN funding.

Rethinking the EU's ODA Investments in Nutrition
Despite its importance, ODA for basic nutrition has stagnated around $1 billion annually since the first Nutrition for Growth (N4G) summit in 2012. In 2022, the EU contributed over half of this amount, with significant increases from France, Germany, and The Netherlands. Therefore, it is crucial that donor countries escalate both political action and financial resources for nutrition. Adopting a multisectoral integrated approach will ensure the efficient use of these resources. As part of its work on nutrition security, the Generation Nutrition Coalition has conducted a study on EU ODA funding for nutrition security-sensitive and specific programs.
