This invitation welcomes nominations from individuals who possess a suitable profile and are committed to the Principles of Engagement of the SUN Movement. "The Politics of Ending Malnutrition" - new podcast episode with SUN Movement Coordinator | |

In their latest podcast series, the N4D team discusses with nutrition leaders from country and global levels how to make international support for country-led nutrition action more coherent and effective. In the newly released episode UN Assistant Secretary-General and SUN Movement Coordinator, Afshan Khan, shares her views on how SUN can provide tailored support countries to scale up their efforts to end malnutrition in all its forms. | |
Global Report on Food Crises 2024 | According to the latest Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC), about 36.4 million children under the age of 5 suffered from acute malnutrition in 2023, and of these, 9.8 million were severely malnourished and urgently needed treatment in 32 food-crisis countries. These levels of malnutrition were attributed to three main drivers: a lack of food (due to limited access and availability of nutritious food); inadequate health services; and inadequate feeding practices, particularly among displaced populations and those affected by conflicts. | |

SUN countries in Asia take steps to improve food labelling |
With the increase in global trade and a shift away from the traditional face-to-face food producer and buyer relationship, there is a greater need to create food labels that are clear and can be trusted.
To that end, in late April the SUN Movement hosted an interactive peer-to-peer learning event for SUN Countries in Asia focused on food labelling.

EU4SUN boosts local support: Ecuador and El Salvador advance child nutrition in line with SUN 3.0 strategy
From Ecuador's implementation to local strategies to El Salvador's innovative breastfeeding support programme, and through the mobilization of all parts of the SUN Movement, the EU4SUN project is making great strides towards achieving better nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The SUN Civil Society Network holds its East and Southern Africa Regional Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya | |

The SUN Civil Society Network (CSN) East and Southern Africa (ESA) regional group held its first post-pandemic face to face regional meeting in Nairobi, Kenya from 14th to 20th April 2024.
The meeting, which was attended by Civil Society Alliances, CSN National Youth Coordinators, Kenyan Government Officials, representatives from the SUN Business network, the SUN Movement Secretariat, the UN and the media, was organized with the aim to:
- Establish a mechanism of effective coordination of the network and clarify governance structures for ESA region.
- Review and update an ESA joint regional strategy for 2024 onwards.
- Enhance engagement and collaboration with the SUN Movement Secretariat regional hub and other regional technical and financial partners.
- Provide a platform for peer-to-peer learning, knowledge exchange, information sharing and identification of joint advocacy opportunities among Civil Society Alliances (CSAs) in the region.
- Strengthen capacity for CSAs in good governance, resource mobilization and documentation of good practices.

Over a hundred government, parliamentary, and academic representatives convened in Guatemala from April 24 to 26 to engage in a dialogue aimed to address critical challenges in food security and nutrition, elevating these issues on national and international agendas. | |
UN-Nutrition retreat held in Sierra Leone
| On 19 April 2024, colleagues from five UN agencies (FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO) gathered in Freetown, Sierra Leone for a UN-Nutrition retreat. The meeting was an opportunity to review and jointly reflect on the findings from a recent inventory of UN nutrition support in the country, based on a common action framework that spans multiple sectors. These insights catalysed the ensuing discussions among the participants on how to better align efforts for increased impact. | |

Fostering peer learning about healthy diets in fragile contexts | |
|
As conflict continues to rage in many corners of the world, the accessibility of healthy diets for all is increasingly challenging. Speakers from the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization and SUN focal points from Bangladesh, Burundi and Yemen shared their insights during the Peer-to-Peer Learning Forum on "Healthy Diets in Fragile Contexts", organized by the Coalition of Action on Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems for Children and All, helping to address knowledge gaps on best practices. | |

New infographics released as part of the joint FAO/WHO food consumption data platform – GIFT
The FAO/WHO Global Individual Food consumption data Tool (GIFT) now includes a new set of infographics on the environment, dietary diversity and advanced analysis. Among the new infographics, are those that estimate the environmental impact of diets in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and water/land use. This is just a taste of GIFT's food consumption data materials. Select one of the 50+ datasets available and click on “visualise data” to view the infographics.
