Dobbs Ferry Schools Celebrate
New, Tenured, and Returning Staff
| |
The Dobbs Ferry School family has been lucky to welcome 19 new faces this year! As we strive to address our students’ evolving needs and help them grow into independent, curious, and open-minded learners, we look to the best and brightest teachers and staff both new and veteran.
New staff members, including Rudelina Murray and Eileen Horan are already hard at work at Springhurst Elementary School supporting our teachers. A conversation about Dobbs Ferry’s staff wouldn’t be complete, however, without highlighting those who have been serving our students for years.

The district formally recognized six teachers and two teaching assistants who had been awarded tenure by the board of education in the spring of 2024. These individuals have proven that they are well on their way to being excellent educators!
This year, Dobbs Ferry UFSD recognized 42 teachers who have served the Dobbs Ferry for decades and were highlighted for the longevity of their service. Click here for the full list of honorees. Dobbs Ferry UFSD is even lucky to have two faculty members in particular who have served this community for 40+ years. These milestones only scratch the surface of the contributions that these elite teachers and staff members have made in the course of their careers. They’ve each touched the lives of generations of students, providing them with a first-rate education in a compassionate and rigorous learning environment.

Literacy Coach Joins the Springhurst Elementary Family
Dobbs Ferry UFSD welcomed many new teachers and staff this year from Springhurst Elementary through Dobbs Ferry High School. Among those who have joined the Dobbs Ferry team is a new literacy coach at Springhurst Elementary, Eileen Horan, who is already hard at work supporting our teachers in implementing the new Bookworms K-5 Reading & Writing Curriculum. Ms. Horan brings decades of experience and a passion for education to Dobbs Ferry UFSD.
“I’m extremely excited about implementing the Bookworms Curriculum here at Springhurst Elementary because of what that framework can do for our students to give them a leg up in reading and writing,” Horan said. “Literacy is a foundational skill that opens doors to lifelong learning, which is why I’m excited about Bookworms’ focus on research-based best practices through careful attention to foundational skills, language comprehension, and composition. I’m looking forward to working alongside everyone to inspire our students and help them thrive!”

Teachers and Administrators Implement
New Literacy Program at Springhurst Elementary
| |
Everyone at Dobbs Ferry UFSD emphasizes the importance of excellence in education and seeks to achieve that through regular, rigorous faculty and staff professional development training. Dobbs Ferry has some of the most compassionate and well-informed teachers around because of a consistent dedication to professional development, as seen in training sessions related to the new Bookworms K-5 Reading & Writing Curriculum at Springhurst Elementary.
After a successful pilot program last year, Bookworms is changing the way that our youngest students develop reading and writing skills by way of a new framework for lesson structure. Teachers are hard at work training right alongside administrators in a collaborative effort to implement the research-based curriculum in order to give Springhurst students a leg up in reading and writing.

Teachers Hone Skills at Dobbs Ferry Middle School
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Coordinator and sixth-grade teacher Jennifer Hickey spent time with her fellow teachers at Dobbs Ferry Middle School to work on developing units that incorporate lessons from multiple subjects. These units aim to create an environment in which students can make connections and engage with subjects through new perspectives. This approach is a key component of the IB MYP program.
