City of Nanaimo 

• Join us as we celebrate Rivers Day in Nanaimo at Bowen Park by the lower picnic shelter! There will be community booths, a StoryWalk, entertainment and a public art presentation at 11:30am with artist, Curtis Grahauer. This event is free for the community! There are also some registered programs to complement the event:
• Watershed and Water Treatment Plant Tour (#128707) takes place on Sunday, September 22 10:00am-11:30am
• Nanaimo River Walking Tour (#129986) takes place on Friday, September 27, 9:00am-3:30pm ($20)

Regional District of Nanaimo 

• Fall registration is open! Register today for fitness classes, swim and skate lessons, afterschool programs and more at www.rdn.bc.ca/recreation.
• The Terry Fox Run is on Sunday, September 15^th. Register for the run today at run.terryfox.ca/55738. Volunteers are needed. Contact kaddison@rdn.bc.ca or call 250.248.3252 to volunteer.
• Ravensong Aquatic Centre will re-open September 8^th after annual maintenance has been completed.
• Older adults are invited to take part in the free activities on offer during Active Aging Week September 30^th through October 6^th. Go to www.getinvolved.rdn.ca/rec-connect to view all planned events.

Congratulations to Lantzville’s own Olivia Lundman, and her teammate Evan Dunfee, for their performance in the Race-Walk event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Race-Walking is a technical sport where competitors must always maintain contact with the ground with one foot. In 2022, Olivia won gold in the 10km Race-Walk at the World Athletics U20 Championships as well as winning gold in the 20km Race-Walk in the 2023 Canadian Championships. You have made Lantzville very proud, Olivia!

Long-Term Care Facility Public Open House

If you live in Lantzville and are interested in learning more about the exciting new long-term care project in your community, please join us at one of three open houses to hear from the project team and have your questions answered.  

Open houses will take place on the following

dates at the Costin Hall, 7232 Lantzville Rd. The events will be held on the following dates and times:

• Wednesday, September 11, 2024, 1:00pm-3:00pm 
• Thursday, September 12, 2024, 9:00am-11:00am 
• Sunday, September 15,2024, 3:00pm-5:00pm 

Each open house will cover the same content. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to RSVP.

Did You Know?

The District of Lantzville is provided with Emergency Response Services through an agreement with the Regional District of Nanaimo. This enables a coordinated approach, which adds efficiency and effectiveness in the event of an emergency. The Plan makes provisions for the community in the event of emergencies such as flooding, wildfire, a hazardous materials spill, earthquake or other catastrophe.

Emergency Preparedness Expo 2024

As partners in Emergency Management Oceanside, the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach and the Regional District of Nanaimo, are excited to invite you to Emergency Preparedness EXPO 2024. The event is a great way to learn about emergency management in the Oceanside region, meet emergency responders, emergency management organizations, learn how you can prepare yourself and your family, and perhaps win a few prizes! As well, PreparedBC will hold a table draw for a four-person home emergency kit and the Shriners will host a pancake breakfast from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Cost is $8.00 per adult and $5.00 per child.

‘The Winds’ Local Area Service Update

The District of Lantzville has concluded the ‘Petition Against’ process of Water System Expansion (The Winds) Local Area Service Establishment Bylaw No. 336, 2023. Elector Response Forms were collected from the owners effected by the proposed expansion until August 27, 2024, at 4:00pm. The results will be announced at the Regular Meeting of Council on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. 

OCP Public Engagement Sessions

The District of Lantzville is hosting public engagement sessions for proposed Official Community Plan Amendment No. 373 and Zoning Bylaw Amendment No. 374:

• Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 9:00am-11:00am at Municipal Hall
• Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 1:00pm-3:00pm at Costin Hall
• Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 6:00pm-8:00pmpm at Municipal Hall

Provincial Election Candidate Forum

Between September 25 - October 3, 2024, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and Nanaimo Regional Hospital District (NRHD) will be co-hosting four all-candidates forums: one in each of the provincial electoral districts that overlaps the RDN regional boundaries. Ahead of these events, they want to hear from you!

Nanaimo-Lantzville Electoral District Forum

When: Wednesday, October 2, 7:00pm-8:30 p.m.

Where: Wellington Secondary School, 3135 Mexicana Road, Nanaimo.

All candidates have been invited to participate in the forums; however, not all may be able to attend. The public are invited to attend the forums in person, watch the livestream or watch the recording of the forums online that will be available on the RDN YouTube channel
