The Regional District of Nanaimo manages the contract for garbage, recycling and food waste collection in the region.

| | Blood's Creek Culvert Replacement Underway | |
Our contractor is completing the replacement of the Blood's Creek culverts on Lantzville and Alger Roads with expected completion on September 30, 2026.
Working hours run from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, work may extend beyond theses hours if required to safely complete critical construction activities or maintain the project schedule.
During construction, drivers in the area may experience temporary traffic delays, construction noise, dust, and short-term access interruptions. Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place as required, and every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.

| | Property Tax Late Payment Penalties | | |
Unpaid property taxes for 2026 have already been applied a 2% penalty. On September 16, 2026, a further 8% penalty will be applied to tax accounts with current year taxes outstanding.
Legislation and District of Lantzville bylaws do not allow penalties on unpaid taxes to be waived. There are no exceptions. Penalties are added to the current outstanding taxes including unclaimed home owner grants. Home owner grant applications must be submitted every year.

SAVE THE DATE: The General Local Election is scheduled across the province on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The residents of the District of Lantzville will elect one Mayor and four Councillors.
ADVANCE VOTING: will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and Wednesday, October 14, 2026. All voting will run from 8:00am to 8:00pm at Costin Hall.
CURBSIDE VOTING: The District of Lantzville will be providing Curbside Voting as needed on polling days, which means you can pull up outside Costin Hall and request that an election official administer voting while you remain in your vehicle. This is a great option for voters with mobility or sensory challenges. If you have an accessibility need that makes voting access difficult in any way, please let us know so we can assist.
MAIL BALLOTING: For those unable to attend the polling station on polling days, or those that prefer to vote by mail, we are now accepting mail ballot voting applications. You can also pickup a copy of the application form at the Municipal Hall. Additional forms, identification, or a solemn declaration may be required before you qualify to receive a mail ballot package. Mail ballot packages will be mailed once ballot printing is complete, on or around September 23, 2026.

Nomination documents are now available on our website or available for pick-up in person at the Municipal Hall.
Nomination documents can only be filed with the Chief Election Officer during the nomination period which opens on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 9:00am and closes on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 4:00pm. Early or late nomination documents cannot be accepted. To book an appointment to file nomination documents, email vote@lantzville.ca or call 250.933.8082 or 250.933.8081.
The preliminary candidate list will be published on Friday, September 11, 2026, after the close of nominations.

| Minetown Day Festivities September 12 | |
The District of Lantzville and the Seaside Community Society are excited to host Minetown Day on Saturday, September 12, kicking off with a bicycle parade at 10:00am.
This year, the bike parade will include kid's prizes and a new adult prize for the best couple costume. A couple could be friends, siblings, couples, neighbours, rivals - any twosome who does a partner costume will be vying to win a 3-course dinner at Camas!
Opening remarks by Mayor Swain are at 10:15am at Huddlestone Park. Activities, rides and vendors will open to the public after the opening ceremony and the fun will go until 3:30pm. Neighbours Band will be rocking through the day with toe tapping hits and and there is another great line up of food trucks this year.
Don't want the fun to end? Check out the Minetown Stomp - the revival of an evening Minetown Day dance at Costin Hall for adults, hosted by the Lantzville Recreation Association. Tickets are available online through their Facebook page or Eventbrite.
The Seaside Society is still looking for a few volunteers - if you are interested in helping out on Minetown Day, email lantzvillemtd@gmail.com or send a message through their Facebook page.
| Temporary Road Closure for Bike Parade | |
Lantzville Road will be temporarily closed from the Ware Road intersection north to Huddlestone Road from 945am - 1030am on Saturday, September 12, 2026, for the Minetown Day bike parade.
Public parking will be available at the Municipal Hall (access via Dickinson Road) and on Lantzville School Road. There is no parking in front of Huddlestone Park or on Huddlestone Road.

The City of Nanaimo will be commemorating National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, September 30. There will be swimming, skating and various activities at Deverill Square Park. More details will be posted to City of Nanaimo Special Events in mid-September.

| Terry Fox Run, Sunday, September 20 | |
The 46th annual Terry Fox Run will be held across Canada on September 20, 2026. Parksville and Nanaimo are hosting events. Registration can be done online or onsite at 9am. The run starts at 10am.
Nanaimo's run will be held at Bowen Park. Parksville's run will be held at Rathtrevor Provincial Park. For more information visit terryfox.org.

| | Water Meter Reading in Mid-September | |
The public works team will be by to read the water meters in mid to late September. Please make sure your water meter is accessible and free of debris.
Third quarter water and utility bills will be mailed in early October and cover usage for July, August and September.
| | Stage 4 Watering Restrictions in Effect | | |
Effective June 17, 2026, outdoor water conservation measures increased to Stage 4. All indications are that Vancouver Island is dealing with a heightened risk of drought as we move into the fall of 2026.
Under Stage 4, outdoor watering is restricted as follows:
- Lawn watering, sprinklers, and washing vehicles is not permitted.
- Hand watering of trees, shrubs and vegetables, only between 7am - 10am, or between 7pm - 10pm.
- Hand watering vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from these restrictions; however, residents are advised to do this in early morning or the evening.
- No new lawn permits will be issued.
Please do your part to proactively conserve water. The District of Lantzville will be monitoring watering restrictions and working with residents to ensure compliance.

| | Full Fire Ban in Effect Since May 7, 2026 | |
All outdoor burning and campfires are strictly prohibited on private and public property in the District of Lantzville. This means that Category 1, 2, and 3, open fires and campfires are not permitted.
Only devices using fuel that does not create sparks or embers, such as propane, natural gas, camp fuel or briquettes is allowed.
