We are a welcoming people of diverse beliefs who commit to nourish the spirit, broaden the mind, nurture the earth and build community.

Let us go forth into the world through a door of hope for the future, remembering these words by Martin Luther: Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.

Upcoming Sunday CFD Information
9/25
Regular CFD Classes Begin
Regular CFD classes begin this week. The Pre-K group will be learning about our tradition of the flaming chalice (and making their own out of clay). The Gr. 1-3 group will begin their exploration of moral tales and journeys of faith by looking into what "religion" means. The Gr. 4-6 group will begin to build their spiritual toolboxes, exploring the question of faith. The Youth group will begin their Coming of Age journey, exploring our fourth principle, "the free and responsible search for truth and meaning."
We still need teachers! Please, consider spending a little time with our children-most of the lessons only run 2-3 weeks, a few are even just one week long. Contact Tony Filipovitch (388-2264; tony@mnsu.edu ) to see the full list of opportunities.

Also: Please remember to register your child(ren) for Children's Faith Development classes.  Get and print the form here or pick up the form in the Fellowship entryway.  Thanks.

BOARD NOTES
DEVELOPMENTAL MINISTRY FOR UUFM?
***PLEASE ATTEND AT LEAST ONE OF THE 3 REMAINING LISTENING CIRCLES!!***

Last Sunday, we had Rev. Don, four board members and 11 other members sharing and listening to each other on the topic of Developmental Ministry. We have 3 more Listening Circles scheduled the next 3 Sundays, from noon to 1. We will for sure have child care for the last 2 Listening Circles.

We will have a very important vote at our Congregational Meeting on October 16: whether or not to advise the board to apply for entrance into the Developmental Ministry (DM) Program with the MidAmerica Region of the UUA. The board is recommending this action to the congregation, but your buy-in and input is essential to the success of this effort.

We need to decide what kind of professional ministry we want for next few years after Rev. Don completes his term with us this summer. The board is recommending application to the Developmental Ministry program as our best option. Your board feels DM will best help us do the work to make us as attractive as possible for finding a called minister in the future.

Please review the following documents to inform yourself about this process, by clicking on the links:

            1: Developmental Ministry

Your board is ready to deeply listen to your concerns and ideas each of the next 3 Sundays, from noon to 1pm in the former Planet Room downstairs.

WE'LL SEE YOU AND LISTEN TO YOU THEN!

UUFM Book Discussion
Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson

"Love is the motive, but justice is the instrument."
-- Reinhold Niebuhr

Bryan Stevenson quotes Niebuhr to open this important book, Just Mercy, the UUA Common Read for 2015-16. Stevenson speaks eloquently throughout the book to justice, mercy, and compassion, themes of concern to us as Unitarian Universalists and as human beings.

A New York Times review described this book as: "Every bit as moving as To Kill a Mockingbird, and in some ways more so... a stirring testament to the salvation that fighting for the vulnerable sometimes yields." Stevenson has worked for three decades to help defend poor, mainly non-white, prisoners on death row in our country.

UUFM will offer three, 90-minute discussions on this significant and moving memoir. Come to one, or two, or all three sessions!

WHERE: UUFM Social Hall
WHEN:   6:30 to 8:00 PM, Thursdays: October 6, October 20 and November 3

Book Discussion Selection for October - Becoming Nicole

On October 5, the Book Discussion Group will discuss Amy Ellis Nutt's non-fiction book Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family. An attitude/perspective-changing book! Don't miss this one. You may have thought you understood transgender issues, but this personal account by a Pulitzer-prize-winning author will open your eyes. One of a pair of identical twin boys identifies as a female; the account is authentic and compelling. Join us for a vibrant discussion, assisted by a young transgender man.

Please join us at 6:30 P.M. for socializing followed by a lively discussion until 8:30 P.M. We will select a fiction book for the November read that night, so please come with your suggestions.

COMMUNITY
"WRITE on RACE to be RIGHT on RACE"
The Greater Mankato Diversity Council invites you to join this community-changing journey!

The "WRITE on RACE to be RIGHT on RACE" community journaling initiative hopes to ignite community awareness and education about the causes and effects of racial divisiveness on our community. This innovative approach will harness the power of individual and collective community reflection, reaction, contemplation, and dialogue on race to establish a baseline of the racial experience, racial sentiment, and racial consciousness of our community. This two-year initiative will serve as a catalyst to inform and direct future organizational and community efforts at combating and eliminating racism.
