A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The 2020 Virtual Conference seemed to go well. The conference was well-attended overall and the sessions that I moderated seemed to work well and to be enjoyed by the attendees. Final numbers and results should be available soon. We did have the typical first morning glitches and had to reschedule one of the LS Review classes for Tuesday afternoon, but it ended up being one of the highest attended Review classes.

The conference videos are available online now and one of the major advantages to a virtual conference is that attendees can now go back and attend the sessions that they did not attend live. I know I have taken advantage of this opportunity to see the sessions I was not moderating. Enjoy them at your convenience, they are available for the rest of this year.

CLSA LOSES FRIEND -- GERALD FRANCIS HOVELL, PLS 3875
We are saddened by the news of Gerald Hovell's passing earlier this month. He had been a member of CLSA since 1967. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Debbie Naves, Channel Islands Chapter, was kind enough to share some of her memories of Jerry Hovell with us. “Jerry often said any story worth telling is a story worth enhancing, so I give you that caution as I relay some things from his childhood. His family lived on a farm in Iowa, about 3 hours-drive north of Des Moines. He went to a one room school from age 4, Catholic School for the middle grades, and then Manly High School in the nearby town of Manly, Iowa. Each time he changed schools, they advanced him a grade. He graduated from Manly High School in a class of 36 at the age of 16.”
CAL POLY POMONA CLSA STUDENT CHAPTER PRESENTS RECORDS RESEARCH WEBINAR SERIES
CPP CLSA student chapter will host a 1 hour webinar approximately every 2 weeks starting September 16, 2020. This webinar series is aimed to gain publicity for CPP geospatial engineering and the land surveying profession, and provide an avenue of continued education for professionals.
SURVEYORS NEEDED FOR DoL STATISTICS
The ONET Data Collection Program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, is again seeking the input of expert Surveyors. As the nation's most comprehensive source of occupational data, ONET is a free resource for millions of job seekers, employers, veterans, educators, and students at www.onetonline.org. The database, available to the public at no cost, is continually updated from input by a broad range of workers in each occupation.

NSPS members again have the opportunity to participate in this important initiative. Your participation will help ensure that the complexities of your profession are described accurately in the O*NET database for use by the American public. Simply use the attached announcement to provide your information to Jim Rose, Business Liaison, RTI International.
NSPS FOUNDATION
DISASTER RELIEF
With each passing day, we continue to hear reports of our fellow Surveyors being affected by the wildfires out West and hurricane/flood damage in the Southeast. BPELSG NEW ONLINE PORTALS
The Board is excited to introduce the first phase of its new application and licensing portal designed to promote effective connection between the Board and its applicants and license holders. Initial functionality allows for overall application management by the EIT or LSIT applicant encompassing the initial user profile creation and application submittal through direct connection with Board staff, through to the issuance of the EIT or LSIT certification. The Board looks forward to extending this functionality to include all applications and license renewals in the near future.

In addition, the Board is also introducing a new Complaint Submittal process which is integrated with the Board’s new online application and licensing portal. It is designed to promote effective connection between the Board and those who are need of assistance from the Board’s Enforcement Program. Additional investigation case management are planned for future releases.
