Last Collection Events of the Year in October

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events return to RRRASOC communities on October 5 and 26! Residents will be able to safely discard various hard-to-recycle items, from household chemicals and pesticides to electronics and pill-form drugs. A full list of acceptable items can be found on our HHW page.

The upcoming event on October 5 will take place at the Novi Department of Public Works, located at 26300 Lee BeGole Drive in Novi, while the event on October 26 will take place at the truck entrance to the RRRASOC Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), located at 20875 Mapleridge Avenue in Southfield. Both events will run from 9am to 2pm. Simple Recycling will be available to accept donations of clothing and small household items during the event held on October 26.

To visualize the types of acceptable HHW items that may be in your home, check out the helpful graphics below!

Handling HHW Items

Keep products in original containers and don’t mix products together.

Containers should be tightly sealed, packed in a box in an upright, stable position and transported in the trunk of a car or bed of a truck.

Please package batteries separately from lightbulbs to reduce risk of shattering.

Dumping vs. Disposing

Dumping hazardous chemicals down the drain can contribute to the pollution of rivers, streams, lakes, and groundwater, impacting the health of fish, animals, and humans.

Responsibly disposing of your HHW at a collection event ensures it will not re-enter the environment and will be handled safely.

Identifying E-Waste

E-waste is anything with a cord that plugs into the wall, takes batteries, or has a motherboard.

It includes computers, cell phones, clocks, printers, tablets, keyboards, TVs, game consoles, electronic toys, chargers, etc.

For additional HHW disposal tips, check out our informative flyer! It contains event dates, info on how to identify and transport HHW, why proper HHW management is important, accepted and non-accepted items, and more!

"Can I Recycle Bottle Caps?"

The answer is YES!

Bottle caps can be recycled as long as they stay on the bottle. Loose caps from water bottles, juice bottles, milk cartons, and more are too small to be recycled on their own as they can often get lost during the automated sorting process and then have to be landfilled. Keeping them on the bottle ensures that they are recycled into new plastic products over and over again!
