September is a special month in San Leandro. It’s a time when we celebrate the many cultures that make our community vibrant, connected and economically strong—and it also gives us an opportunity to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month.

For the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, these celebrations are about more than food, traditions and festivities. Our multicultural business community is one of our greatest economic assets.

Walk through San Leandro and you’ll see it everywhere: family-owned businesses, manufacturers, restaurants, professional services, retailers and entrepreneurs whose backgrounds span generations and countries around the world. Each brings different experiences, ideas, traditions and connections—and together, they create a business community that is stronger because of its diversity.

Our multicultural business owners contribute jobs, investment, innovation and entrepreneurship to San Leandro. They serve our residents, employ our neighbors and help shape the character of our community. The result is an economy that reflects the people who live here.

That is why it feels especially fitting that Hispanic Heritage Month and our annual Multicultural Mixer both take place in September. It gives us a chance to celebrate not just one culture, but the many cultures that come together to make San Leandro a great place to live, work and do business.

And this month, we shine a little extra light on our Hispanic and Latino business community—recognizing the entrepreneurs, families and businesses whose contributions are an important part of San Leandro’s story and future.
