Milestones & Memories...

"MOVING GOODS, FROM HERE TO THERE;

NOT BY LAND, BUT SEA AND AIR"

In 1984, in order to augment the freight capacity of our own truck reservations on Steamship Authority vessels, Marine began operating a C-119 cargo airplane from Hyannis to Nantucket. The Korean War era military aircraft was known as "The Flying Boxcar", a reference to the shape of its fuselage and large freight capacity.

Palletized freight of hardware for the store was weighed, staged, and loaded according to a careful load balancing plan. The plane was outfitted with skate wheel rollers on the floor of the cargo area to facilitate loading. A pallet of goods was forklifted into the plane through the large clamshell doors in the rear of the plane and secured to predetermined stations.

Marine's bold experiment with the C-119 was discontinued after only a few years due to the high cost of maintenance and other logistical challenges.

BUILDING MATERIALS

The Cavity Slider Pocket Door Frame is a practical solution for those areas where there is not enough space for a swinging door. Unlike other pocket systems, the Cavity Slider is structurally robust due to its construction from aluminum extrusions. This product is supplied as a kitset and is easy to assemble and install.

Cavity Slider® Pocket Frames are currently available to order in the Building Materials Department's quick ship program. Soon you will be able to see a working display in Marine's new Window & Door Gallery after it opens this fall.

PAINT

NEW!

WoodForce is an ultra low-VOC (volatile organic compounds), durable wood treatment that allows exterior wood to weather naturally while offering great water repellency and protection from blackening, discoloration and wood rot.

Sansin WoodForce repels water while allowing wood to breathe. Over a short period of time, the wood will weather uniformly, yet retain water-repellency and protect against weathering and wood rot that can last up to 5 years.

The video below displays how the products work:

Marine offers WoodForce Clear, a clear coat that protects wood aggressively, and WoodForce Accel, which helps speeds up weathering effects.

GARDEN

Time to seed and fertilize!

Late summer and fall are the perfect time to re-seed and apply fertilizer, which will help strengthen roots and keep your grass healthy throughout the winter. We recommend seeding with the Cape Cod mix, a blend of grass seed specifically formulated to grow in this climate (sold by the bag or pound).

Protect your lawn from winter weather with the Scott's four step lawn fertilizer program. Apply Step 4 in the fall to prepare for next spring. Applying a lawn soil such as Scott's Turfbuilder or the Coast of Maine Monhegan Blend will add nutrients and improve soil texture to help new seed take root.

Select potting and garden soils are now 50% off (in front of Housewares only). While supplies last! All sales final.
