As the season changes here in the Outer Banks, it is nice to take a few minutes to reflect on this past summer and the memories and experiences made possible by your OBX national parks. I think we can all agree that our Outer Banks are special - and would likely look very different if our national parks were not here to protect both the natural beauty and the rich history of this island community we love so much. This Saturday is Public Lands Day - a day to celebrate our national parks and public spaces. Our mission here at Outer Banks Forever is to protect and enhance your OBX national parks, and we can't do that without your support. Last month we released our 2020 Annual Report - an overview of the impact you made possible despite the challenges we all faced last year. In 2021 you've continued to step up and support your parks. A great example can be seen in this photo at our recent ribbon cutting to open the Oregon Inlet Kayak Launch - the first ever designated, mobility friendly kayak launch at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Back to School: Virtual Field Trips to Your OBX National Parks As a new school season starts, kids of all ages (and kids at heart) can experience their OBX national parks from anywhere through virtual field trips. Virtual field trip topics include: Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Lighthouses and Sea Turtles/Maritime Life Fort Raleigh National Historic Site: The Freedmen's Colony and The "Lost" Colony Wright Brothers National Memorial: The Wright Family, Mechanics of the First Flight and Story of the First Flight If you're interested in hosting a free virtual field trip for your students or special group, email your park staff at obx_interpretation@nps.gov.
