September 2024

President’s note:

I reluctantly had to skip the last golf event at Windermere in the month of August, but fortunately was able to squeeze in four rounds of fabulous golf in Scotland. I hope you all understand my absence.

The chapter championship at the end of this week should prove to be exciting! Unfortunately, we didn’t have quite the turnout that we were hoping, so we have adjusted with the course that allows us to hold a two day event by setting tee times instead of having a shotgun start. Please be sure to review all emails concerning the chapter championship to be sure that you’re in the proper flight, and your tee time. I’ll be rushing back from London in time to compete in the chapter championship.

We are setting up for a spectacular new year with a somewhat new board to handle our winter leagues coming up. If anyone has any interest in serving in any capacity on the board or committees, please let me know.

Once again, Marla Huxhold is chairing/captain of our CME Marshall duties. The southwest Florida chapter has Marshall the fifth hole at this end of year finishing tournament for the LPGA. We cover the marshaling duties on the par 3, hole number five. If you’re out and about at the CME this year, which is held the third week of November, stop by and say hello to some of your friends as we have a number of volunteers already signed up.

2024 SWFL Chapter

"Biggest Loser Handicap Challenge"

Unlike other biggest loser competitions - you don't have to stand on a scale in spandex in front of a national TV audience!

Our five-month long, stroke-shaving competition challenges LPGA Amateurs SWFL Chapter members to see who can improve the most.

This competition is flighted. Prizes will be awarded to the member with the best overall improvement and the most improved member in each flight.

Our chapter competition runs from 6/1/24 to 10/31/24. A minimum of 10 rounds need to be posted in order to participate.

All members who post their GHIN handicap through the LPGAAMSWFL will be automatically included.

If you'd rather not participate and/or like to participate but have your GHIN hosted by your club or other organization, please send an email to kerstin@variety-travel.com

Played 10+ Holes & Got Rained Out? Still Post that Score - Here's How!

In case you are unable to finish your 18 hole round, due to weather or light conditions, you can still post your score for handicap purposes, as long as you completed at least 10 holes. Your score has to be entered as a hole by hole score on your GHIN app.

For Example: You played 14 holes, scored a 70 so far, but are unable to finish due to a thunderstorm. You'll enter the current scores hole by hole.

Once you get to 15 you hit the post button since there a no more scores.

A message will pop up that says your round is not finished would you like to post.

You hit yes and your score will post and show the score as 70 (14). The app will calculate your handicap differential based on the holes played.

9 Holes or Less?

If you are able to finish 9 holes only, please post your score as 9 holes.

If you play less than 9 holes you won't be able to score, but probably get a rain check for a new round.

For more information and/or if you'd like to establish a handicap please contact Kerstin at kerstin@variety-travel.com

We do not typically cancel for general rain forecasts because in Florida it may or may not impact the course being played.  If you have rain / weather concerns, call the Pro Shop for course conditions but note that for a 100% refund, golf event cancellation must be made by the event coordinator.
