From Your Pastor...

On Monday morning, several members of our congregation received a phishing email that appeared to come from me. While my name was used, the email did not come from my actual email address. Shortly after we became aware of it, we sent a church-wide message letting everyone know it was a scam. Thank you to those who quickly reached out to double-check before responding.

Unfortunately, these kinds of phishing attempts are increasingly common and churches are not immune. Scammers often “spoof” a pastor’s name and ask for gift cards, money, or urgent assistance. Please know that I will never request financial help, gift cards, or confidential information through a surprise email.

The most important step you can take is to carefully check the sender’s actual email address—not just the display name. If something feels unusual, urgent, or out of character, pause before responding.

And please feel free to call or email me directly anytime you’re unsure about a message’s credibility. I would much rather you double-check than fall victim to a scam. Thank you for helping us protect one another.

It is a privilege to serve God as one of your clergy.

Heart to Heart Talks

We remember the important heart-to-heart talks in our lives, whether a dashboard confessional between parent and child, a wee-hours dialogue with a friend, or a life-changing FaceTime with someone we love. This series explores conversations with Jesus in the gospels. As people come seeking answers to their deepest questions, or making claims about their faith, or wondering who he is, Jesus engages, challenges, and exhorts. What would we ask Jesus if we could meet him? And how might he answer us?

Building Holy Habits into a Rule of Life

Led by Rev. Martha Touchton and Friends

We are the product of our habits! Spiritual habits enable us to walk closer God and lead us to grow deeper in our relationship with God and others. Holy Habits help us orient our lives toward being disciples of Jesus Christ every day. We’ll consider how we can expand and enhance these habits as adults and help them be built into the lives of our youth, children, and families.

Missions Updates

Hidden in Plain Sight: Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness - UMM Breakfast & Meeting on March 7

Join the St. Mark's United Methodist Men's group in the banquet room for a hearty breakfast at 7:30 AM and a devotional at 8:00 AM.

Many children in our own community come to school each day carrying more than backpacks—they carry uncertainty about where they will sleep, eat, or feel safe. Under the McKinney-Vento Act, students experiencing homelessness have the right to stability and support in their education. The ATLAS / Homeless Education Program works quietly and compassionately to meet these students’ academic, emotional, and basic needs so they can focus on learning and growing. Join us for an informative and hopeful presentation to learn how our community can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.

The presenter will be Jessica Johnson - ATLAS Liaison for the Rutherford County Schools.

Disaster Team Updates

Trinity United Methodist Church - Murfreesboro, TN - 2/6/26

The snow and ice storms that hit in January of 2026 left damage all over Middle Tennessee, including Murfreesboro.  On February 6, 2026, St. Mark’s Disaster Team responded to Trinity United Methodist Church where they had several large branches that fell on their church building and in their yard. The Disaster Team cut the branches and helped some members of the church haul the debris to the street to be picked up. (See attached page for before and after pictures.)

On February 23, 2026, the Disaster Team received a card from Trinity UMC expressing their thanks for clearing the branches and property and helping them to save money.
