From your Pastor...

Our communion rail offering for Hurricane Helene recovery efforts netted $8,966 with other additional gifts expected in the coming days. Unfortunately, we expect another hurricane to make landfall in Florida tomorrow on Wednesday evening. The path of this hurricane is expected to impact people near and dear to my heart, like our own Nancy, Mark, Clarice, and Samuel (Brooke) Phillips and one of my best friends from seminary. Let's continue to pray for all those affected by these storms.

It is a privilege to serve God as one of your clergy.

New Sermon Series: The Upside-Down Kingdom

This Sunday, we'll continue the series, "The Upside-Down Kingdom," using the lectionary readings from the tenth chapter of Mark's gospel. This collection of Jesus' teaching focuses on the nature of true discipleship, which is often contrary to the perspectives and priorities of the world. Each of our texts will reveal a different way that God inverts the culture at large and calls us to live a life "upside down."

Join us as we learn how to live right side up in an upside-down world.

The Upside-Down Kingdom Series Scriptures:

October 13: Mark 10:17-31

October 20: Mark 10:35-45

October 27: Mark 10:46-52

SAGES News

St. Mark’s Sages (Senior Adults Growing Exploring Serving) had a wonderful trip last week to the Midway Diner in Deason, Tennessee. Thanks to all who were on the trip. And a big “thanks” to Roland Edwards for driving.

The next meeting of the Sages Ministry Team will be Monday, October 14 at 9:30 AM in Room 503-505.

The Sages will be painting pumpkins on Wednesday, October 23. Thanks to Patti and Bill Brison for their invitation to lunch and this pumpkin activity. The bus will leave the church at 10:00 AM. Please sign up in the church office or Narthex. Look for the Sages Book.

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group will meet Thursday, October 24, 1:30 PM in Room 503-505. Anyone caring for those with dementia is invited as well as others who want to be supportive and learn more about the disease. Everyone is invited.

We continue to hear from so many who appreciate the ministry of our Sages who re-purpose the flowers from Sunday worship and make visits to share them with our members and others who are homebound, in the hospitals, or in care facilities.

The next Sages’ excursion includes a trip to The Top Of The Rock in Jasper, Tennessee. The bus will leave at 10 AM from the church. Lunch is Dutch Treat at The Top Of The Rock at 11:30. $5.00 is requested for the bus fuel. Please sign up in either the Narthex or the church office. Look for the Sages’ Book.

A trip is also planned for the Center for the Arts in Murfreesboro and lunch at The Chop House. To make reservations, please register anytime in the office or the Narthex. Look for the Sages book of activities and you will find all the activities catalogued.

This year each week/month we are again offering worship experiences at five different SAGES Assisted Living and Memory Care Centers.

Please join us for an outing. We believe you will enjoy it.
