From the Pastor

One of my biggest surprises as a college student came as a result of taking a communication class on listening. It seemed almost silly to me that such a course could even be offered at the college level.   I thought everyone naturally knows how to "listen." Of course, as you are probably more than aware, I was wrong. Most of us don't know how to listen to one another or take the time to try to really listen to one another ...

SAGES will be attending the Festival of Wisdom and Grace at Lake Junaluska, NC, Monday, August 13 through Thursday, August 16. The theme is "The Wise Shall Shine." The total cost for the program and lodging is $374 for doubles. The deposit is $200 per person. If you need a registration blank, please call the church office ...

Youth News

We recognized our wonderful seniors this past Sunday as they graduate high school and move onward to great things as young adults! We are so proud of all the contributions they have made over the years, and they will be sorely missed!
This Wednesday is the church-wide neighborhood walk. We will meet at the church at 5:00pm to meet with the rest of the congregation to go to our nearby neighborhoods and look for opportunities to connect with our community. This will be a great way to establish connections with those who are around us - we hope you join this exciting event!
On Saturday May 12th, the youth will be helping with the car show being hosted by St. Mark's! We will be selling drinks for those in attendance as a fundraiser for our youth group's events and missions. Come support making our youth group as great as it can be while also having some fun! Show up at 1:45pm.

Sunday May 13th, is games night with Mom. Come out and have some fun and fellowship. Don't forget to bring your Mom.

A summer calendar packed with lots of fun and fellowship will be coming in the next week! Stay tuned to see what events we have planned for everyone!

Project Transformation Summer Program - How You Can Help

College students from around the country will soon descend on Rutherford and Cannon counties to lead and love elementary-age students in the name of Christ through Project Transformation, a faith-based day camp for underserved children. Many of these college students will stay in a newly converted Wesley Foundation property for the summer. Your help is needed now to furnish this housing.

All churches in the Stones River District are asked to help meet the housing needs of students who will be serving Christ in our communities. As an added bonus, your contributions will also support the Wesley Foundation campus ministry as MTSU students will reside in the housing during the school year. It's a two-for-one opportunity!

St. Mark's Welcomes Summer Interns

St. Mark's will be blessed by the contributions of two ministry interns who are returning for a second summer of service, Hannah Underwood in Children's Ministries and Caroline Van Patten in Youth Ministries.

Hannah Underwood just completed her sophomore year in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Middle Tennessee State University.  A graduate of Sequatchie County High School, Hannah grew up in Whitwell, Tennessee attending Sulphur Springs UMC.  Her first mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina with her home church, sparked a passion for serving others within me and lead her toward her major. She is involved with National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and the Wesley Foundation at MTSU which encourages her to do what she loves. She is excited to continue pursuing her passion at St. Mark's UMC!

Caroline Van Patten
is finishing her fourth year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism Management, and minoring in business administration.  Caroline is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  This fall, she will be in the Disney College Program and then will graduate from UT in the spring of 2019.   Caroline was active in the youth program at St. Mark's in high school and is super excited to be back!
