Seeking Coffee Hour Hosts

We invite you to consider hosting an upcoming coffee hour. This is a wonderful opportunity to foster community and connection within our congregation. Whether you have a favorite treat to share or simply enjoy gathering with others, your participation makes all the difference.

Hosting is a chance to engage with fellow parishioners, welcome newcomers, and strengthen our bonds over warm beverages, simple treats and conversation.

If you're interested, please contact Stefanie Nelson in the church office, or sign up on the schedule posted downstairs. Thank you for helping to make our coffee hour a special time for everyone.

Ordination Announcement

We are delighted to announce that former St. Thomas parishioner Christina Cernansky will be ordained as a Deacon at St. Michael's Cathedral in Boise on Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. She will serve as a deacon for at least six months while she completes her seminary education, with the expectation that she will be ordained as a priest in mid-2026. All are welcome to attend the ordination, and if you wish to send Christina a card you can send it c/o St. Michael's, 518 North 8th Street, Boise, ID 83702.

Rector's Discussion Group

Spirituality: A Brief History, Philip Sheldrake

This Fall please join the Rector’s Discussion Group for a study of Philip Sheldrake’s classic, Spirituality: A Brief History. Tracing the evolution of Christian spirituality from the New Testament era up to contemporary times, Sheldrake charts key historical figures, ideas, and images, illustrating how spirituality has been understood and expressed across different periods. The book also considers:

o The nature and meaning of spirituality

o 21st-century spirituality

o The dynamics of devotional spirituality

o How Christian spirituality has interacted with other faith traditions over time

About the Author

Philip Sheldrake is an influential religious historian and theologian, with a strong academic background in spirituality as an emergent discipline. He has taught at University of London, University of Cambridge, Durham University, and the University of Wales.

Sheldrake has served as president of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality and holds positions at the Von Hügel Institute (Cambridge) and the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Spirituality (Oblate School of Theology).
