The Quest for the Historical Jesus

On Sunday 2/15, following coffee hour, the Adult Education hour will begin a two part series on The Quest for the Historical Jesus. The Gospels contain stories that, while not historically accurate, represent attempts by the authors to present a truth about Jesus and make a theological statement. We will examine techniques that biblical scholars use to separate the Jesus of history from the Christ of faith. Please join us.

Evensong This Sunday

Joel Bejot

Sunday, Jan 18, 5:30 p.m., please join us for Choral Evensong. Evensong is a peaceful service that evolved from the monastic practice of praying all throughout the day. The majority of the service is sung - from the opening responses to the prayers, hymns, anthems, and canticles, you'll hear lots of music! We usually observe some saint during these services, on which a short homily will be preached. This time, we will be observing the Confession of St. Peter. This is the story in the bible where St. Peter acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ, and Jesus responded "you are the rock on which I will build my church."

We have two services remaining this academic year - Feb 15 and March 22. Save the dates!

Rector's Discussion Group Begins February 4

UPDATED SCHEDULE

Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again

By, Rachel Held Evans

About the Book (Amazon):

Undaunted by the Bible's most difficult passages and unafraid to ask the hard questions, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating the mysteries surrounding Scripture. Discover alongside Evans that the Bible is not a static text, but a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that can equip us and inspire us to join God's loving and redemptive work in the world.
