Donna M. Beegle, Ed.D., is an authentic voice that brings unique insights from having grown up in generational poverty in America. Born into a family of migrant workers who were mostly illiterate and married at 15, Dr. Beegle is the only member of her family who has not been incarcerated. By age 26, she earned her GED, and within ten years she received her doctorate in educational leadership. Dr. Beegle's inspiring story and work have been featured in newspapers around the nation, on local TV, and on national programs such as PBS and CNN.

Celebrate Constitution Day!
In the spirit of Constitution Day and to aid in the fulfillment of Public Law 108-447 Sec. 111 Division J - SEC. 111(b), the Young Lawyers Division organizes an annual public education program that provides participating New Mexico fifth-grade classes with an educational lesson from a New Mexico attorney, accompanied by free U.S. Constitution booklets to keep. Volunteer attorneys are needed to conduct roughly hour-long presentations in schools across the state during the week of Sept. 17-21. Visit here by Aug. 31 to volunteer, to view curriculum resources and for more information about what to expect when you volunteer. Note that flexibility in presentation date is available for members willing to travel to rural areas of the state to conduct a lesson.  
Committee on Women and the Legal Profession
Join the Committee on Women and the Legal Profession for the presentation of the 2017 Justice Pamela B. Minzner Outstanding Advocacy for Women Award to Aaron Wolf. The award reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Aug. 30, at the Albuquerque Country Club. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided and a cash bar will be available. Court of Appeals Candidate Forum
The Appellate Practice Section will host a Candidate Forum for the eight candidates running for the New Mexico Court of Appeals this Nov. Save the date for 4-6 p.m., Oct. 18, at the State Bar Center in Albuquerque. The event will be live streamed at www.nmbar.org/AppellatePractice for those who cannot attend in person.

The New Mexico Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program is thrilled to announce a NEW, FREE EmployeeAssistance Program (EAP) service offered to all judges, lawyers, law students, law firm personnel and immediate family members as of spring 2018. The NMJLAP has contracted with The Solutions Group to bring the New Mexico legal community personalized solutions for life's challenges. As stated by The Solutions Group, "From time to time, professionals in all types of organizations face complex personal challenges that cause intense stress. As your EAP provider, our primary focus is to help professionals find accessible solutions that will ultimately help to improve their overall quality of life." 
Volunteers Needed for Veterans Civil Legal Clinic
The YLD seeks volunteers to staff the final Veterans Civil Legal Clinic of 2018 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, at the N.M. Veteran's Memorial located at 1100 Louisiana Blvd SE in Albuquerque. Volunteers should arrive at 8 a.m. for orientation and complimentary breakfast. The clinics offers veterans a broad range of veteran-specific and non-veteran specific legal services, including family law, consumer rights, worker's comp, bankruptcy, driver's license restoration, landlord/tenant, labor/employment and immigration.
