Animal Talk: Audubon Society
2018 is the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the "Year of the Bird" as declared by the Audubon Society. The MBTA prohibits "take" of protected migratory bird species. Until December 2017, the prohibitions on "take" included incidental take. The U.S. Department of Justice prosecuted individuals and businesses for violations of the MBTA take provisions. On December 22, 2017, the U.S. Department of Interior Solicitor issued an opinion redefining "take" to exclude incidental take. What effect will the opinion have on MBTA enforcement? Join Jonathan Hayes, executive director New Mexico Audubon Society, at noon on June 29 at the State Bar Center to learn more. R.S.V.P. to Breanna Henley at bhenley@nmbar.org
