Board of Bar Commissioners Election and Nomination Petition 2018
Notice is hereby given that the 2018 election of six (6) commissioners for the State Bar of New Mexico will close at noon, Nov. 30. The following terms will expire Dec. 31, and need to be filled in the upcoming election. All of the positions are three-year terms and run from Jan. 1, 2019-Dec. 31, 2021.
First Bar Commissioner District: Kevin L. Fitzwater, Clara Moran, Benjamin I. Sherman
Second Bar Commissioner District: Joseph F. Sawyer
Third Bar Commissioner District: Constance G. Tatham
Sixth Bar Commissioner District: Scotty A. Holloman* Ineligible to seek re-election
Court of Appeals Candidate Forum
The Appellate Practice Section will host a Candidate Forum for the eight candidates running for the New Mexico Court of Appeals this Nov. Save the date for 4-6 p.m., Oct. 18, at the State Bar Center in Albuquerque. The event will be live streamed at for those who cannot attend in person. Thank you to the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association and Albuquerque Bar Association for their co-sponsorship of the event.

ABA Law School Mental Health Day 
The ABA Law Student Division officially moved Law School Mental Health Day to Oct. 10. American University Washington College of Law will host a YouTube Live event featuring Laurie Besden, Pennsylvania Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Executive Director, who is in recovery with an incredible story to share. Prosecutors Section Annual Awards Open
For 2018 the Prosecutors Section aims to identify a Prosecutor of the Year awardee representing each of the following regions of New Mexico: Northeast (4th, 8th and 10th judicial districts); Southeast (5th, 9th and 12th judicial districts); Northwest (1st and 11th (Divs. 1 & 2) judicial districts); Southwest (3rd, 6th and 7th judicial districts); and Central (2nd and 13th judicial districts). Seeking the Best and Brightest: 2018 Real Property Attorney of the Year
The State Bar of New Mexico Real Property Trusts and Estates Section, Real Property Division is seeking nominations to honor an outstanding lawyer who has demonstrated professionalism, outstanding contributions and made a difference in their legal community. The Real Property Division Board will select the Honoree who will be presented with a plaque and be awarded free tuition to the Real Property Institute for 2019 during a special lunch at the 2018 Real Property Institute on Dec. 5.
Submissions: Include "Nomination for Best Real Property Lawyer" in the subject line email to deadline 5p.m. Nov. 6. Nominees must be lawyers in good standing, based in New Mexico and be a Real Property Trusts and Estates Section Member. Include no more than 350 words.
Solo and Small Firm Section Monthly Speaker Series Features Mike Stout
Nationally-respected criminal defense attorney Mike Stout of Las Cruces, who will consider "True Believers and the Road to Hell" from noon-1 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the State Bar Center in Albuquerque.
