From Caregiver to Oncology Nurse: Shannon’s Journey of Compassion and Resilience

Shannon Volkov's experience as a caregiver for her mother, who was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, had a profound influence on her life. Her passion for supporting patients with this disease inspired her to change her career path from medical school to nursing. Now, she works as an oncology nurse specializing in cholangiocarcinoma. Shannon is also actively involved in volunteering with multiple organizations, where she mentors fellow caregivers and advocates for cancer support and research. Celebrating Remarkable Bonds at the 2024 Annual Conference

The 11th Annual CCF Conference celebrated the transformative power of the CholangioConnect program. One particularly moving highlight was the heartwarming presentation by mentor Fred Neubauer and mentee-turned-mentor Vincent DiMauro, which showcased the remarkable bonds that can form through shared experiences.

Their journey exemplified CholangioConnect’s profound influence. As a mentor, Fred's support was pivotal in inspiring Vincent to become a mentor, fostering a strong friendship. Their emotional presentation and embrace on stage left the audience in awe. It was a poignant reminder of the lasting bonds that can be formed through CholangioConnect.
