New Mother Collection Drive Recap
Donations collected February 1-29, 2024
|
Throughout the month of February the WSN collected essential supplies for new mothers in need in the Blackstone Valley. All donations collected were distributed to local food pantries and non-profit community agencies serving new mothers in the Blackstone Valley. Below is a message from the South Central WIC Program, Community Coordinator:
"As a nonprofit organization, the South Central Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program directly engages with new or soon-to-be moms, as well as foster families and kinship caregivers. We greatly appreciate the donations we received from the New Mother's Collection Drive.
We received everything from diapers and wipes, newborn clothing, toys, books, breastfeeding supplies, baby grooming kits, toiletries, and gift sets and handmade items for mom! The kindness and generosity of the Blackstone Valley community is positively overwhelming! In addition to the services we provide, the donations will help moms and new parents give their child(ren) the best start possible.
With the donations, we're making gift baskets for the upcoming Healthy Families of Southern Worcester County Community Baby Shower on May 15th. And we're also making new born bags for our participants at our Southbridge, Webster, Spencer, Whitinsville, Milford, and Warren sites."
With gratitude,
Jenny McDonnell

Maria's Garden Recap
Millbury
|
This past October, the Women’s Success Network teamed up with the Millbury Women’s Club to host a special event in dedication of raising mental health awareness. A Hope Garden was planted at Millbury’s “Elmwood Street Elementary School” in honor of our dear friend, Maria Remillard, who we lost to ovarian cancer last year. This garden was dubbed “Maria’s Garden” as to commemorate the passion that she had for giving back to the community, and as a way to continue her legacy of bringing hope and love to those around us.
Most recently, Maria’s Hope Garden sprouted up and bloomed with gorgeous tulips that were vibrant and yellow in color. These yellow tulips are chosen specifically to symbolize hope, unity and support within the community, all while shedding light on the importance of mental health.

Health & Wellness Tips Inspired By International Women's Day
We all put our own needs on the back of the shelf sometimes, but we should really think about what we hear when we get on a plane about masks dropping from above. “You need to take care of yourself before you can help others”. As March 8th was International Women’s Day, it is important that we take time to think about taking care of ourselves, physically and emotionally. That may mean treating yourself to a massage, having a workout routine, and sometimes it means having dinner with a good friend. This also means putting proper foods in our body to fuel ourselves. Whatever your body needs it is important to remember that our physical health and emotional health are closely tied together, and we must take care of both.
This is all stuff we have heard before; go to the gym, eat fruits and vegetables, but it is important that we do it. We must begin a routine and a routine takes at least 2 weeks to develop. The best way to develop a routine is to find a good friend and keep yourselves accountable. Most of us tell ourselves that we will start going to the gym next week and then once spring and summer get here, we are still waiting for next Monday, and we are uncomfortable. So don’t wait! In the Blackstone Valley we are lucky to have numerous gyms, studios, salons, and nutritional shops. Take advantage of their proximity and do not be afraid to try something new.
