We are getting closer to Sun Valley’s administration of the State’s Keystone exam. Students who are scheduled to test in ELA, Algebra or Biology will be notified of their exact testing days under separate communication. Today we share with you all the overall schedule for your planning purposes. 

Students who are testing on a designated day are to arrive for the regular school day start time of 7:30. All students who are NOT testing will have a two hour delayed arrival schedule. Note: there is no transportation provided for the delayed opening. Transportation only runs on the regular day schedule. If you are in need of transportation in the morning and you are not testing you may report at 7:30 and attend study hall in the auditorium during the testing window.

It is Motif submission time!

If you’ve written any poetry or short stories, if you’ve created any films or videos, if you’ve made any paintings, drawings, cartoons, anime, sculptures, or ceramic creations, or if you’ve taken any photographs that you are particularly proud of or would like to share, please consider submitting to Motif, Sun Valley’s literary and artistic magazine. Teachers, if a student has created something particularly worthy, please encourage that student to submit, or please submit on their behalf. If you have a piece you’d like to submit, please see or email to Mr. Hill. The deadline to submit is May 8.

Attention: Parents/Guardians of 11^th grade students

The Pennsylvania School Health Act requires a medical examination for every student in Grade 11. You can have the physical examination done by the school physician at no cost to you or by your family physician. Your family physician has a better knowledge of your child’s medical history and is in the best position to recommend necessary treatment and immunizations. Therefore, we encourage you to have the physical completed by your family physician and submit to your school nurse.

If you choose to have the examination done by our school physician, Dr. Louis Gianguilio, you will need to schedule an appointment. The school physicals will be conducted on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Northley Middle School beginning at 2:00 PM.

Please follow these steps:

·        Call Mrs. King, RN at 610-497-6300, EXT. 6505 to make an appointment no later than Wednesday, May 6th. NO STUDENTS WILL BE EXAMINED WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT.

·        Obtain a physical form either from the Penn-Delco Website under Health Services or from your school nurse and complete the parent history section prior to the physical.

·        Your child must report to Northley at the assigned time for the exam with the physical form. Parents should accompany their child for the exam.

PLEASE NOTE:

·        NO IMMUNIZATIONS WILL BE GIVEN AT THIS APPOINTMENT.

·        IF YOU SUBMITTED A SPORTS PHYSICAL FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT ANOTHER PHYSICAL.

Senior Prom Ticket Infofmation

Senior Prom will be held on May 8, 2026 from 7:00-11:00 pm at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware. 



In order for students to be eligible to attend the Senior Prom, regardless of if they have purchased tickets or not they must meet the following criteria:

• Students must be academically eligible as of the May 1st eligibility report (cannot be failing more than one class.)
• Students may not have outstanding fines (senior dues, lunch, scholarchip, library, etc.) exceeding $20.
• Students must have good school attendance and be in good standing discipline wise, as determined by school administration.

No student who purchases a ticket and is deemed ineligible will be permitted to attend the prom and no refunds will be issued for any reason. Tickets are not transferrable between students. 

Students will be able to sign up for tables after the conclusion of ticket sales. Tables will seat 10 students.

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley. 

• Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror. 
• The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police. 
• No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning. 
• The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time. 

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Seniors – Scholarship Season is upon us. Pay close attention to Schoology and SchooLinks for scholarship opportunities and be mindful of deadlines.

Seniors:

Seniors - Monday, May 4 is the LAST DAY for seniors to hand in college acceptance and scholarship letters to guarantee recognition in the graduation booklet. Bring your letters to the counseling office before school, between classes, at lunch or after school. We will copy and return the originals to you. We are proud of your accomplishments and want to make sure you are recognized.

As you receive acceptance and scholarship letters from colleges, don’t forget to bring them to the counseling office so we can copy them. We want to make sure you are recognized for your achievements.

Keep an eye on Schoology’s ‘College and Career Planning’ Course for scholarship opportunities. New scholarships are added as they become available.

Wildlife Leadership Academy – Interested in learning more about wildlife, fisheries and conservation?

5 day summer programs available at field schools. The trainings begin with a rigorous period of residential programming that focus on a special topic in conservation that teaches about ecology, recreation, as well as leadership skills development and continues with community outreach through education, service, media engagement, creative arts, and outdoor mentorship. Areas of focus include: Bucktails (white-tailed deer), Bass, Brookies (brook trout), Gobblers (turkey) and Ursids (black bears) along with their habitats. For Youth ages 14-17, programs run June and July 2026 in Madisonburg, PA

The Paraprofessional Team

Ms. Willow's pick for staff member of the week is: The Paraprofessional Team

She writes, I want to select our team of Paraprofessionals - all important in their own ways but together this team keeps our school running smoothly and does the jobs not everyone is willing to do. Miss Connie, Miss Ronnie, Miss Bacon, Ms. S, Ms. Summers, Ms.Deckman and Ms. Price. It was also "Paraprofessional Day" over Spring Break and I think they are all due their flowers. Much of this team works all through summer and never stop working hard. They will have to fight over the special parking spot though! 🙂

The Freshman Academy

The Freshman Academy Zoo Trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th, during the regular school day. This trip to the Philadelphia Zoo is mandatory for all 9^th grade students and was included in the Freshman Academy Curricular Trips payment and permission slip due earlier in the school year; no additional payment/permission slip is required. Lunch was not included in the cost; therefore, students should plan on packing a lunch or bringing money to purchase food of their choice at the zoo. 

Please note, students absent on May 27^th will not receive a refund, for the tickets have already been secured. Questions regarding the Zoo Trip can be emailed to lschneider@pdsd.org and abondanza@pdsd.org.

Bible Buddies - The Great Revival

Bible Buddies meets every Wednesday in D-94. All are welcome and no Bible is needed to attend. We love to welcome new attendees!

Girls Spark

Girls Spark is a club for girls by girls that focuses on issues surrounding leadership, self-advocacy, service, personal wellness and much more. Interested girls can see Madeliene Kleppinger or Alexa Bernstein for more information.

Girls Spark will meet next on Monday, April 27th. Please join us to help create our mural of famous women artists from the Renaissance period for Arts Alive! We need all hands on deck. Free snacks provided. All girls welcome, even if this is your first time coming.

All interested girls are welcomed and encouraged to attend!
