National Athletic Training Month (NATM) is held every March to raise awareness of athletic trainers, licensed health care professionals who prevent, diagnose and treat injuries and medical conditions. The 2026 tagline, chosen by members on social media, is "Care You Can Count On."

What is an Athletic Trainer?

Athletic trainers provide care in schools, colleges, workplaces, clinics and professional sports. They are trained in injury prevention, emergency care and rehabilitation and they work collaboratively with physicians and other health care professionals.

Athletic trainers are medical providers within the health care system and play a critical role in patient safety and injury prevention.

Sun Valley students are participating in "Senator for a Day" at Widener University. The event is sponsored by State Senator Kane and is designed to have students learn about and participate in a "mock session" of our state legislature. Sun Valley is one of 8 Delco districts participating.

Mock Crash Assembly

On Wednesday April 8th, juniors and seniors will be participating in the Mock Crash Assembly. This will take place both outside and in the auditorium. You may see a number of police officers, firefighters, and other emergency personnel at Sun Valley, but there is no emergency. If you have any questions or concerns about the mock crash, please see your School Counselor.

Junior Prom Information

Please see the important messages below regarding Junior Prom!

Students wishing to attend prom must be academically eligible (not failing 2 or more courses), have good school attendance, and a clean discipline record as determined by Sun Valley Administration. The final eligibility report will be run on April 10^Th. Academic eligibility will be based on final grades for marking period 3. Tickets will not be refunded if students become ineligible. The privilege to attend prom may be taken away by administration based on discipline and discipline resolutions and there can be no refunds. In addition, there will be no transfer of ticket(s) from one student to another or from one guest to another.



All students, regardless of grade attending junior prom will attend an assembly during 4^Th period on April 17, 2026^Th. Students wishing to leave early must have parental permission sent in by April 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm by emailing jmoletteri@pdsd.org or submitting it on Safe Arrival. Early dismissal will be at 11:00. No students will be permitted to attend the prom if they are dismissed prior to 11:00. Only students who have submitted an approved early dismissal will be permitted to leave at 11:00. Students will scan their ID when exiting school. 

Ramadan at SVHS

Dear Students and Families,

As we approach the month of Ramadan (expected to begin around February 17, 2026), I want to take a moment to reaffirm Sun Valley’s commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all our students.

Ramadan is a holy month for our Muslim community, marked by fasting from dawn until sunset, prayer, and reflection. We recognize that this period requires significant physical and mental discipline, and we want to ensure that our students feel supported in balancing their religious observances with their academic goals.

To assist our fasting students, the school will be implementing the following accommodations throughout the month:

1. Dedicated Quiet Space

During lunch periods, the MIC will be available as a "food-free" quiet zone. Fasting students who prefer not to be in the cafeteria are welcome to use this space to rest, read, or catch up on schoolwork.

2. Prayer Accommodations

We have designated the MIC and Main Office conference rooms for students who wish to perform their daily prayers. Please speak with your teacher / counselor if you need a brief pass during the day for this purpose.

3. Physical Education & Activities

Students who are fasting are encouraged to participate in P.E. to the best of their ability. However, we understand that energy levels may fluctuate. 

4. Communication with Teachers

Our faculty is aware of the potential for increased fatigue, particularly in the late afternoon. If you have concerns about a specific exam or a major project deadline during the final ten days of Ramadan, please reach out to your teachers proactively. We are committed to flexibility where possible.

Strength lies in our diversity. We ask all students to remain mindful and respectful of their peers who are observing this month. To our fasting students: we wish you a meaningful and peaceful Ramadan.

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley. 

• Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror. 
• The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police. 
• No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning. 
• The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time. 

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Students in grades 10-12 who are interested in a career in the military should sign up for the ASVAB Exam, a required test for military entrance. The test is free of cost and will be held on April 14^th at 7:45 am in the MIC. Students need to bring their laptops fully charged as it is administered on their Chromebooks. The sign up for this exam is in SchooLinks under Engage > Events > ASVAB Testing > Register for this Event.

Seniors:



As you receive acceptance and scholarship letters from colleges, don’t forget to bring them to the counseling office so we can copy them. We want to make sure you are recognized for your achievements.

Keep an eye on Schoology’s ‘College and Career Planning’ Course for scholarship opportunities. New scholarships are added as they become available.

Wildlife Leadership Academy – Interested in learning more about wildlife, fisheries and conservation?

5 day summer programs available at field schools. The trainings begin with a rigorous period of residential programming that focus on a special topic in conservation that teaches about ecology, recreation, as well as leadership skills development and continues with community outreach through education, service, media engagement, creative arts, and outdoor mentorship. Areas of focus include: Bucktails (white-tailed deer), Bass, Brookies (brook trout), Gobblers (turkey) and Ursids (black bears) along with their habitats. For Youth ages 14-17, programs run June and July 2026 in Madisonburg, PA

Ms. Mancarella's pick for staff member of the week is: Mr. Kochersperger

She writes, My choice for staff member of the week is Joe Kochersperger. Mr. Kochersperger is a hard-worker, and is supportive of all of the staff here at Sun Valley. He never fails to put a smile on someone's face with his humor and wittiness, and he always gives great advice when you need it. He cares about his students, and is passionate about what he teaches; I know his students appreciate him and enjoy his class greatly. He has been a wonderful neighbor and homeroom partner these last few years (best homeroom!!). Thank you for all of the positivity that you bring to Sun Valley, Mr. Koke!



Senior Prom Info

Senior Prom will be held on May 8, 2026 from 7:00-11:00 pm at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware. 

Ticket will be $75 per person 

Guest forms for the senior prom are available today in the main office and from Mrs. Grady. Guest forms are due back no later than March 27th, and should be handed in to ­­­­Mr. Moletteri in the main office, and must include a picture of the guest’s photo ID. No guest form will be reviewed without a photo id.

Tickets to the Senior Prom will be sold from March 23rd- April 7th on School Pay. Ticket sales will end at the conclusion of the school day on the 7th.

In order for students to be eligible to attend the Senior Prom, regardless of if they have purchased tickets or not they must meet the following criteria:

• Students must be academically eligible as of the May 1st eligibility report (cannot be failing more than one class.)
• Students may not have outstanding fines (senior dues, lunch, scholarchip, library, etc.) exceeding $20.
• Students must have good school attendance and be in good standing discipline wise, as determined by school administration.

No student who purchases a ticket and is deemed ineligible will be permitted to attend the prom and no refunds will be issued for any reason. Tickets are not transferrable between students. 

Students will be able to sign up for tables after the conclusion of ticket sales. Tables will seat 10 students.

Field Trip to Six Flags

When: Saturday, April 25th

Cost: $50 per ticket

Sales: tickets sales are until the end of the day on 3/16. This is a HARD Deadline

Class of 2028 will also be hosting a Chipotle Fundraiser on 3/28!

Class of 2029

The freshman class was well represented at the Frosh on Friday March 6th, both in ticket sales and on the dance floor! Thank you to all of the wonderful freshman parents who generously donated snacks for the dance. We really have a wonderful group of students and parents in the Class of 2029.

The link for our Class Trip for Hershey Park on Friday, May 30^th is posted on the Class Schoology page. The link was also messaged to parents. The cost of the trip is $90 which covers the Coach bus as well as tickets to Hershey Park, the Water Park, and Zoo America, We will leave Sun Valley at 7:45am and return around 10:00 pm. Payment is due by Friday March 20th but there are 52 spots available for this trip. If, when you go to pay, the trip is sold out, please contact pmalaczewski@pdsd.org to put your name on a waiting list. If there is enough interest, we can look into reserving another bus.  

Note: Freshman parents made a payment for academic field trips at the beginning of the school year. This trip is not an academic trip. Each year our class will go on a trip to celebrate the year together. It will feel like no time at all until we are planning our Junior Class Trip to Virgina and our Senior Class Trip to Disney World. 

We will be holding a committee meeting for the Class of 2029 before Spring Break (tentatively March 25) in room C85. If your student has been looking for a way to get involved, please encourage them to attend the meeting with a friend and become a member of the Class Committee. We plan all of our class social events and fundraising. 

Lastly, we are looking for ideas to fundraise for the class. Please reach out to Ms. Mal (pmalaczewski@pdsd.org) or Mr. Henning (khenning@pdsd.org) with any suggestions. 

The Freshman Academy

The Freshman Academy Zoo Trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th, during the regular school day. This trip to the Philadelphia Zoo is mandatory for all 9^th grade students and was included in the Freshman Academy Curricular Trips payment due earlier in the school year; no additional payment is required. 

Lunch was not included in the cost; therefore, students should plan on packing a lunch or bringing money to purchase food of their choice at the zoo. 

Please note, students absent on May 27^th will not receive a refund, for the tickets have already been secured. Questions regarding the Zoo Trip can be emailed to lschneider@pdsd.org and abondanza@pdsd.org.

NHS is proud to host Mini-Thon this year at Sun Valley. Mini-Thon is an event that raises money for childhood cancer in coordination with Four Diamonds and Penn State College of Medicine. Four Diamonds has been able to provide care and resources for families going through childhood cancer and support 90 pediatric research professionals at Penn State to create more effective treatments and to minimize long term side effects of a cancer diagnosis. The students will raise money for this cause and celebrate with a culminating event on April 10. ALL Sun Valley students are welcome to participate in this event! The NHS students are working hard to plan the event but a task like this needs everyone’s support. We will be hosting fundraising events throughout the school so keep an eye out for different events.

The Sun Valley players will work in stations with the participants and will be led by their Head Coach, with other coaches:

Bible Buddies - The Great Revival

Bible Buddies meets every Wednesday in D-94. We're currently reading and exploring the book of Ephesians. All are welcome and no Bible is needed to attend. We love to welcome new attendees!

Girls Spark is a club for girls by girls that focuses on issues surrounding leadership, self-advocacy, service, personal wellness and much more. Interested girls can see Madeliene Kleppinger or Alexa Bernstein for more information.
