Hello Sun Valley Families!

Huge shout out to our some of our students who helped make Parkside's Blue Ribbon Celebration event a success! It was wonderful getting to bring joy to the students there!

We are just two weeks away from the end of the 1st quarter. Please make a strong push to review your student's grades and ensure they are going to finish the marking period strong with no missed assignments.

As a reminder there is no school for students on Monday November 3rd and Tuesday November 4th for district in services.

Dear Students, Educators, and Families,

We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the Emerge Program Youth Leadership Fellowship, a dynamic and free 6-week program empowering high school students across the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (EDPA) to lead with vision, voice, and purpose.

In partnership with the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and The Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement, this program gives students the tools, mentorship, and confidence to become the next generation of civic and community leaders.

Program Dates:

Date: November 1 – January 13 (No session on November 29)

Location: Fels Institute of Government, University of Pennsylvania & community sites

Time: Saturdays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Cost: FREE!

Eligibility Criteria:

✔️ Open to students in grades 10–12 in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley.

Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror.
The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police.
No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning.
The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time.

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

The growth I've seen from Caitlyn these past four years is astounding. She went from being an unsure freshman to a very confident senior who looks forward to doing well. I have been lucky enough to have Caitlyn in class every year of her high school career to see this progression first hand. Caitlyn has become a very diligent, determined, and kind human being. I am excited to see what her future beyond Sun Valley holds. Congrats Caitlyn!

Anthony Bellace

I can always count on Anthony to start his "Do Now" as soon as the bell rings, which is something a teacher considers golden. Anthony is the definition of a hardworking student and lives up to that title everyday in class. I admire Anthony's effort and how he never gives up on something, even when it's hard. Etch Kulakowski

I am fortunate to have Etch for both Honors British Literature and Introduction to Film. I always enjoy talking music and movies with him, and appreciate his breadth of pop culture knowledge. Etch participates in both classes often, and shows initiative and leadership when doing group work. I really appreciate his sense of humor, and the way he demonstrates being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible every day!

Jayda Chubbs

Jayda just transferred to Sun Valley last year, but she already demonstrates our values of being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible! In Honors British Literature, she does excellent work, participates often, and always asks me how I'm doing. She is friendly to her peers, works well collaboratively, and shares my love of music. I admire her plan to serve in the military, and know she will succeed in everything she does!

Class of 2028

Attention 10^th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10^th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University in June. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.

Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley. Use this link to complete the essay and submit a resume if you are interested in applying.

Class of 2029

The Freshman Class will be voting for class officers in the next week or two. They will listen to recorded speeches in homeroom and then vote via a google form.

Voting will close at the end of homeroom the day speeches are viewed. The officer positions are President, Vice President, Historian, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Freshman Academy UPDATE: To accommodate our families during this busy time, Sun Valley has arranged a DEADLINE EXTENSION for the mandatory Freshman Academy Curricular Trips! Ninth grade students who have not yet paid for the Theatre Trip (December 18th) and Zoo Trip (May 27th) may do so by November 5th. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

NHS Acceptance letters for new members were sent out last week in homeroom.

Please submit your induction ceremony RSVP by Friday, October 31. Induction is mandatory for membership and is being held on January 15, 2026.

MATH HONOR SOCIETY

The Math Honor Society will have their next meeting for all members on November 12th (in the MIC afterschool) and are asked to check the Schoology group for announcements and resources. Peer tutoring is also available in the MIC after school on scheduled days (there will be updates posted in Schoology throughout the year).

National English Honors Society Applications (NEHS) are now CLOSED. All applications were due by last Friday, 10/17.

RHO KAPPA

The Rho Kappa Honor Society in Social Studies will be accepting applications until October 29th. The application form has gone completely digital this year and can be found on the main Schoology page. Students are required to have an unweighted GPA of a 3.0 and 3.5 GPA in their social studies coursework.

GSA is open to all LGBTQIA+ students and Allies! We are always looking for student leaders who want to make a difference at Sun Valley.

ART CLUB/NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

Art Club meetings will be held every Wednesday (unless otherwise told) until Arts Alive in May!

Are you interested in writing, editing, art or photography? If so, join the Newspaper Club! We will discuss plans and a publishing schedule for the 2025-2026 school year.

Meetings are on Mondays 2:20pm - 3:15pm. We are working on our first issue now and our expected publishing date is 10/10. Meeting are held in B44 and all are welcome to attend.

We are always looking for new members interested in writing, editing, photography, or videography.

Student Senate - next meeting is Thursday, 10/30 in the MIC

Student Senate is collecting cans for Camp Out for Hunger. Each homeroom will receive a box. The homeroom that collects the most cans/dry goods will receive a free breakfast. The collection will run from October 10, 2025-November 8, 2025.

These are the most needed items:

E-GAMING CLUB

"Video Game Club or E-Gaming Club meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, after school from 2:15PM to 3:15PM. You do not need to sign up, and attendance is not mandatory, show up when you please!

We usually play games that are local Co-Op, and the Nintendo Switch is what we use most due to its portability.

BRING YOUR OWN GAMES as they will not be provided, we are a collaborative group who share and work together. If you would like something added just ask!

We have three different AV set-ups so up to three groups of students may play at any given time!"

Wildlife Leadership Academy – Interested in learning more about wildlife, fisheries and conservation?

5 day summer programs available at field schools. The trainings begin with a rigorous period of residential programming that focus on a special topic in conservation that teaches about ecology, recreation, as well as leadership skills development and continues with community outreach through education, service, media engagement, creative arts, and outdoor mentorship. Areas of focus include: Bucktails (white-tailed deer), Bass, Brookies (brook trout), Gobblers (turkey) and Ursids (black bears) along with their habitats. For Youth ages 14-17, programs run June and July 2026 in Madisonburg, PA
