Weekly Update
October 18, 2026
| | A Message from the Principal | |
Our PSAT day a great success!
We are on the second half of the first quarter. Please ensure you are checking in on your students grades in both Skyward and Schoology.
If your student is not involved with a sport or an extracurricular activity we highly encourage them to find a way to connect with SVHS in this way. Please have them see a counselor or administrator to go through the options available to them.
There is a lot of information in the boxes below. Please review them thoroughly!
We thank you for all your continued support! Have a great week! John Paul Roskos

Sun Valley' s 2nd Annual Mini-THON
Sun Valley is proud to host its second Mini-THON this upcoming year. Mini-THON is a yearlong event that raises money for Four Diamonds and Penn State University. All proceeds support childhood cancer research and financial support to families afflicted with a cancer diagnosis. Fundraising efforts culminate in an 8-hour dance-a-thon. Last year, SV students raised around $22,000 in support of this cause and we are super excited to begin our fundraising efforts for this year. Our first fundraiser will be held at Top Golf in King of Prussia on Friday, November 13th @ 6:30. Please keep an eye out for details on Schoology and our Sun Valley Mini-THON Instagram page.
Help Wanted!
All students are welcome to help organize Sun Valley Mini-THON. Please see Mrs. Maiale in Rm. B251 if interested in supporting and organizing our 2026/2027 Mini-THON. We currently have the following committees that are in need of assistance:
Fundraising
Hospitality
Communications
Entertainment
All meetings will be held in Rm. B251 and meeting times will be posted on Schoology.
Please help us make Mini-THON bigger and better than last year! FTK!!

The Sophomore Class recently completed an exciting Homecoming weekend, including the parade and dance! A special congratulations and thank-you to all of the class members who worked hard to design our class T-shirt and help with the parade float. Your time and creativity helped make Homecoming a success!
We also recently held a successful fundraiser at Chipotle. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the Class of 2029! Our next fundraiser will be held on Wednesday October 14 from 4-8pm at Freddy’s in Brookhaven. Please plan to enjoy dinner there that evening and be sure to mention SV Class of 2029 when making your purchase or order online using code GIVEBACK. Thank you in advance for helping us raise money to offset the cost of future class activities and events!
Finally, we will be holding open class meetings for any sophomore who is interested in helping plan upcoming events and activities throughout the year. Please listen to the daily announcements and check the class Schoology group for meeting dates and additional updates.

Mrs. Bednar
Selected by: Mr. Meenan
Jill Bednar - I miss my old neighbor. Her smiling, “Good Morning,” made each morning a little easier. I watched her reaching her students by inspiring them into learning a new language. She was a great help to me and my daughter as Marissa pursued a degree in Language education. Now that she is the ESL teacher for SVHS, she impresses me with her caring for her students, the information that she distributes for her students and all the help she has given to Ms. Price and me with our students. Besides, she's a nice person too.
| | | | Recognitions: Students of the Week | |
| |
Lavita Chubbs
Selected by: Mr. Liles
Lavita consistently demonstrates responsibility by arriving to class on time and showing respect to her peers. Her dependability and kindness make her a valued member in our classroom.
| | | |
| |
Vincent Capuano
Selected by: Mr. Barry
Vincent is this week’s Student of the Week in weight training, and he has earned it. He does a great job of advocating for himself when learning new lifts, asking questions and seeking feedback to make sure his form is safe and correct. Vincent works diligently every day and stays focused on improving his technique. He is also always willing to lend a helping hand to classmates, whether that’s spotting, offering a tip, or encouraging a peer through a tough set.
| | | |
| |
Myla Leon
Selected by: Mr. Liles
She is kind to everyone around her and makes classmates feel welcome in every activity. Myla approaches each task with real motivation, giving her best effort in the gym. She is a pleasure to have in class, and her positive energy encourages everyone around her. Congratulations, Myla, and thank you for being such a great example for your peers!
| | | |
| |
Jai McFadden
Selected by: Mr. Liles
Jai consistently demonstrates kindness and respect toward others, actively participates in class discussions, and reliably completes his work. His positive attitude and consistent effort makes him a wonderful addition to our classroom environment.
