Students in grades 10 & 12 will complete the state PAYS survey this Wednesday in an extended homeroom. More information on this has been communicated in separate email.


Reminder: There is no school for students on Friday for teacher in -service.

Here's a quick look at the week ahead: 10/13/25-10/17/25

• Thursday, October 16th - Day 3, Absentee & Picture Retake Day
• Friday, October 17th - In Service Day, No School for Students

What to expect on picture day

1. Any student wishing to have a retake should bring their original picture package to exchange for the retake image.
2. When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
3. If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
4. A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
5. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.

All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

The Cabaret Club performance will be on October 23^rd at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance at sunvalley.ludus.com or at the door.

We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the Emerge Program Youth Leadership Fellowship, a dynamic and free 6-week program empowering high school students across the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (EDPA) to lead with vision, voice, and purpose.

In partnership with the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and The Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement, this program gives students the tools, mentorship, and confidence to become the next generation of civic and community leaders.

Program Dates:

Date: November 1 – January 13 (No session on November 29)

Location: Fels Institute of Government, University of Pennsylvania & community sites

Time: Saturdays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Cost: FREE!

Eligibility Criteria:

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley. 

• Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror. 
• The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police. 
• No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning. 
• The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time. 

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

Please join us next Saturday, October 18^th for our annual Sun Valley Craft Fair!! We have over 75 crafters from the area showcasing their talents. We will also have food for sale in the lobby along with a raffle table where each crafter will have donated an item. There’s always some fantastic stuff!! There will also be 2 food trucks out front that day! Please join us! If you go to the Facebook event and click “interested”, you’ll be reminded about the event!! Please support our Vanguards!!! This is the PTL’s main fundraiser and we could really use your support!!

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Mr. Moletteri's pick for Staff Member of the Week: Mrs. Grady

He writes, My choice for Staff Member of the Week is Mrs. Grady. I have known Mrs. Grady since I started at Sun Valley. She is always willing to pitch in and support students and staff. This year, despite knowing how crazy my brain can be, she stepped in when I needed a co-sponsor for the senior class. I could go on for hours about why Mrs. Grady deserves to be staff member of the week!

Attention 10^th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10^th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University in June. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.

Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley.  Use this link to complete the essay and submit a resume if you are interested in applying.

Class of 2029 Shines at Homecoming!

The Class of 2029 had a fantastic Homecoming! A big thank you to all 9th graders who helped plan, decorate, and ride on the float last Friday. Thanks also to everyone who purchased and wore their Homecoming shirts—your spirit made a difference! We’re thrilled to share that our Sixers-themed Trust the Process float earned second place!

If you want to get more involved in class activities, keep an eye out for upcoming meeting dates—we’ll soon be planning the annual Powder Puff football game.

For students interested in leadership opportunities, there will be an interest meeting for Class of 2029 officers on Monday, Oct. 13th in room C85. You’ll learn what a class officer does and how the election process works. Petition forms will be available at the meeting.

Important Reminder for ALL 9th Grade Students: Over the summer, families of incoming freshmen received information and permission slips for the mandatory Freshman Academy Curricular Trips. Payment (online or check/money order) is DUE on or before October 17th. Please see Mrs. Schneider in B60 or Ms. Bondanza in B259 if you have any questions. Permission slips and check payments can be turned into Homeroom teachers.

Elmer Hafer American Legion State Police National Guard Youth Camp

Six day Youth Camp for students aged 15-17 interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or the military. Students should be physically fit, in good health and have a good academic record. Cadets must be between the ages of 15 and 17 before entering the camp.

Keystone Boys State – Summer Educational workshop for high school junior leaders. Selected students will have the opportunity to gain leadership skills through an intensive week-long summer program. The focus of KBS is its hands-on simulation of municipal, county and state government. June 14-20, 2026 at Messiah University.
