Hello Sun Valley Families!
We are about to be 1 month into the school year! At this point you should
be able to gain a good picture on how your student is doing
academically. Please hold these conversations and have them walk you
through their grades in schoology. If you have any questions at all
please reach out to your student's teacher
Mid marking period is Friday October 4th.
A reminder on the upcoming PSAT:
The PSAT is being administered at SVHS on Wednesday October 9th. This is a district wide half day of school. Students in grades 10 and 11 are automatically registered to take the PSAT. 9th grade students who would like to take the test must opt in using the form sent to parent emails. All 12th grade students and 9th grade students who do not opt in do not need to report on 10/9/24.

Ms. Scarcelli
Mrs. Lessik's pick for Staff Member of the Week: Ms. Scarcelli
She writes, "I am nominating Ciara Scarcelli as Staff Member of the Week! Ms. Scarcelli holds many roles at Sun Valley. Besides being an amazing teacher in our Special Education Department, she is also one of the Class Advisors for this year's senior class. Furthermore, she has always been one of our coaches for our Unified Bocce and Track & Field teams. The students look up to her and truly appreciate her involvement in the classroom as well as in activities and sports. She is always so helpful in all areas and a blessing to the Valley! Thank you, Ms. Scarcelli, for everything that you do!"

EMILY THOMPSON
Nominated by: Mr. Dobbins
Emily is generally a quiet individual who simply goes about her business of doing what she's supposed to do while not trying to draw attention to herself. As a result, she probably hasn't gotten recognized for being an excellent student in the past maybe as often as she should have (including by me). After having the pleasure of teaching Emily in her Pre-Calculus class last year, I want to make sure that I do recognize her work ethic and ability to excel in her coursework, and I also want to express my appreciation for how helpful she was to the students around her in assisting them to learn too. I'm confident that Emily's approach will continue to bring her success after high school as well, and I am eager to see where life ends up taking her later on. I'm sure that there are plenty more good things to come!

BLAKE DiPASQUALE
Nominated by: Mr. Dobbins
Blake was a student in my AP Calculus class last year, temporarily a student of mine in AP Statistics 2 years ago, and has been an ongoing leader in Sun Valley's Science Olympiad and Robotics Clubs the past 3 years. Frankly, Blake is probably sick of seeing me by this point, but despite my annoyingly never-ending presence, Blake is always polite, respectful, and pleasant anytime I see her. Blake is likely going to win some some of cash fellowship someday on her way to pursuing a post-graduate degree, so I feel like it's only fitting that she at least at be recognized as student of the week here in high school before she gets there, even if the stipend now is only a handful of Sun Dollars this time around.

|
BRIELLE WRIGHT
Nominated by Mr. Rafferty:
Brielle is a leader at Sun Valley who excels both in the classroom and on the playing fields. In the classroom, Brielle has a 4.5 GPA while taking many AP courses and is a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of the classrooms, Brielle is a 3 sport standout on the Soccer, Basketball, and Lacrosse teams leading both the basketball team and lacrosse teams to District playoff berths. I am proud so proud of Brielle and thanksful for all she does to make Sun Valley a great place.
| | | |
|
BRANDON CARR
Nominated by Mr. Rafferty:
Brandon is an incredibly hard worker both in and out of the classroom. He is a straight A student, taking multiple AP courses with a 4.2 GPA and a member of the National Honor Society. On the Wrestling mat, Brandon works year round to perfect his craft. He heads into his senior year with 110 career wins and 2 straight PIAA State berths. He recently committed to Franklin and Marshall College where he will continue his wrestling career. I'm so proud of Brandon as he is a great representative of what being a Sun Valley Vanguard is all about!
