Greetings Sun Valley Community,
Happy Presidents' Day!
We would like to recognize all the great accomplishments of the Presidents' of our great country starting with our founding father George Washington! Let their legacies live on!
This past week our student's engaged in their selections of electives for the 24-24 School Year! The extensive work of building a master schedule begins now!
We would like to give shout out to all those who attended the winter formal. It was a great time enjoyed by great staff and great students!
We would also like to give a shout out to our winter athletics! So many of our sports have had appearances in playoffs and other championships! Basketball, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Indoor Track, Swimming & Diving you all represented Sun Valley High School well. Your hard work has paid off and your Vanguard community is proud of you! Additionally, our choir/band represented us in performances in Disney which you can see a lot more about below. Excellent work!
As we continue to move through the winter months we ask that all stay diligent in meeting the expectations of being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible each and every day!

This past weekend, the Sun Valley Music Department took a performance trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This trip was highlighted by a parade performance by our Marching Band and the choir participating in a Disney workshop.
The Sun Valley Marching Band was selected by a video audition in June to participate in a Disney Parade in the Magic Kingdom. This was a huge honor as not all groups are accepted to perform. On parade day, the students were escorted back-stage and were made official Disney Cast Members for the time they would be performing. With Cinderellas Castle as the perfect backdrop, the students marched down Mainstreet U.S.A and entertained guests from around the world.
The SV Choir participated in a Disney Imagination Workshop at Epcot. They went backstage with the Disney staff to work in one of their professional recording studios! The students worked with a Disney Performer for 2.5 hours to put together a vocal recording of the music from "Frozen". Students took turns making sound effects, saying lines from the movie, and singing as a group. After they were done rehearsing, they recorded sound effects, lines and music. The recording technician put the voices over the movie and the students were able to watch the movie with their voices over top of it. The students had a blast and this experience showed them what it is like to be a Disney recording artist!
Overall, the trip was a huge success as these students are just an AMAZING group of kids. Each one of them was a wonderful representative to our music programs, Sun Valley and the Penn-Delco School District. We all are Penn-Delco PROUD of these students!

MS. LARCK-FIORILLI
This week, Mrs. Koehler has chosen Ms. Larck-Fiorilli as staff member of the week. Miss L is dedicated to her students and her profession. She goes above and beyond to make the curriculum engaging and accessible to all our students; yet, she never flinches when I ask to change something, even when it is right smack in the middle of a lesson. Everyone who enters her room is welcomed by her bright warm smile. Congratulations, Miss L!

SAMANTHA BARON
Mr. Kingan has selected Sam as student of the week. Sam is an incredibly intelligent and hard-working student who makes valuable contributions to every class activity and discussion. More than that, she is also friendly, outgoing, funny, and just overall a delight to have in class. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have Sam as a student this year

AVA MCKNIGHT
Mr. Kingan has selected Ava as student of the week. I had the pleasure of teaching Ava in world history last year, and she was one of my hardest working and most engaged students, as well as one of the funniest I've ever had (even if I ended up on the receiving end of some of her roasts). I know she has continued to work hard and excel into her junior year as well, both in school and extra curriculars, and I am incredibly proud of the effort and diligence that she puts into everything she does.

LUCY ESPOSITO
Ms. Josephson has selected Lucy Esposito for student of the week. Lucy was a wonderful student in my first semester Health and Wellness class. She always walked into class greeting me with a "good morning" and always left saying a "have a nice day.” Lucy always showed respect and responsibility during class time. She was very conscientious with her work and always participated in our class discussions. You can tell Lucy values her time at Sun Valley and is making the most of her high school experience.

KAIDEN ROBISNON
Ms. Josephson has also chosen Kaiden Robinson as student of the week. Kaiden was an exceptional leader and athlete in my first semester Team Sports class. Regardless of the activity, he always gave 110% effort. He was able to bring out the best in his teammates and motivate them as only a true leader and captain could. Kaiden is respectful and a joy to work with and be around. He has so much to offer his peers, teammates and the community.
|
ADDYSON GARRITY
Ms. Schneider has chosen Addyson Garrity as student of the week. Addyson always shows up to Survey of Literature with a smile and friendly conversation! She goes above and beyond on her assignments and contributes thoughtfully to class discussions.

Ms. Schneider has chosen Arabelle Pearson as student of the week. In addition to being a dedicated student, Arabelle is always happy to support her classmates. She goes out of her way help others and is a delight to have in class.
