ANNOUNCEMENTS

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2024 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Please see the timeline below to note all the important dates that will be happening over the next several weeks.

Congratulations to Sun Valley’s Reading Olympics Team, the Sun Valley Page Turners! In this year’s annual Reading Olympics Competition, they earned 58 (out of 60) points and secured a blue ribbon for their achievement! Their love of reading, coupled with dedication to working hard, resulted in their great success. They also worked extremely well together as a team. Great job!

We are proud to share that Sun Valley's production of "Catch Me If You Can" did very well with award nominations this season. We set a record for number of Cappie nominations with Sun Valley receiving 12 nominations stretching from all sorts of categories.

This year with the help of our Director Liz Hazlett, our drama students e were put into the running for the Philadelphia Independence Awards. The Independence Awards are a much more prestigious and competitive award ceremony in which real, adult adjudicators attend our show and give feedback.

It is Motif submission time! If you’ve written any poetry or short stories, if you’ve created any films or videos, if you’ve made any paintings, drawings, cartoons, anime, sculptures, or ceramic creations, or if you’ve taken any photographs that you are particularly proud of or would like to share, please consider submitting to Motif, Sun Valley’s literary and artistic magazine. Teachers, if a student has created something particularly worthy, please encourage that student to submit or please submit on their behalf. If you have a piece you’d like to submit, please see or email to Mr. Hill. The deadline to submit is Friday, May 10th.

Digital Hall Passes are Coming

Over the next few weeks, Sun Valley will be piloting a new hall pass system where students will request a hall pass on their Chromebook, and carry their school ID to indicate they are in the hallway on an approved pass. Groups of teachers will begin using these passes in late April and early May, and we anticipate using the system building wide in September.

For those families who have students and Northley Middle School, we will be using the same system that they have been using since earlier this year.

STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK

FRANCINE IM

Mrs. Diehl's pick for Staff Member of the Week is Francine Im. Mrs. Im’s dedication to our students and her colleagues is truly inspiring. She always makes time to listen and support others and looks for ways to help all students grow academically and personally. She is one of the hardest working individuals that I know and I don’t know how she does it all. She is nothing short of a superwoman, not to mention, an awesome Advisory partner. Congratulations and thank you for your commitment and care to the students and staff of Sun Valley.

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

SUSAN STEIGER

M. Starinieri has chosen Susan Steiger as student of the week. Susan has made a tremendous improvement in British Literature since the beginning of the 2nd semester. Susan has been striving to do well on not only submitting her assignments on time, but also on the quality of her work. She participates in class discussions as we read Frankenstein and self-advocates when needed. Susan did wonderful during her Mock Interview last week! We are very proud of Susan's successes and know that she will continue to flourish.

CHLOE WILLS

Ms. Starinieri has selected Chloe Wills as student of the week. Chloe is the definition of being "ready, respectful, and responsible". She is consistently prepared for class and always arrives with a smile. Chloe is the first one to volunteer to pass out and collect folders & notebook and will, many times, do so without even being asked. I admire Chloe's dedication and effort to her classwork, as well as her constant eagerness to improve. Congratulations, Chloe!
