Hello Sun Valley Families!

Thank you for a great first full week of teaching and learning!

This week we hope you can join us for Back to School Night. Thursday

September 18th join us from 6pm-8pm as you follow your students

schedule to get to meet all of their teachers. We have had great showings the past few years and we hope even more families can join us this year!

The PSAT is being administered at SVHS on Wednesday October 8th.

This is a district wide half day of school. Students in grades 10 and 11

are automatically registered to take the PSAT. 9th grade students who

would like to take the test must opt in using the form sent to parent

emails. All 12th grade students and 9th grade students who do not opt in

do not need to report on 10/8/25.

There are tons of important information below including a new system when dropping off items for students when school is in session. Please read them all below.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

PSSA Results & Spring 2025 Keystone Results

The PSSA results and the Spring 2025 Keystone Score Results have arrived and will be distributed to parents during Homeroom at Back to School Night.

Guest Forms for the homecoming dance are available in the main office. Guest Forms are due back no later than September 24th and must include a picture of the guest's photo ID. Tickets to the homecoming dance will be sold from September 22^nd - 26^th on School Pay. More information will be released in the coming weeks. Please note all students must be eligible to attend the dance as per the September 26^th eligibility report.

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley.

Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror.
The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police.
No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning.
The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time.

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Mrs. Capuano

Mr. Blocksom's pick for Staff Member of the Week: Mrs. Capuano

He writes, I would like to nominate Nurse Gina Capuano. From handing out Band-Aids to administering medicine and caring for so many other needs, Nurse Capuano is always ready to help and make sure everyone feels better. She is someone we can always count on to be there and to respond quickly in an emergency. Because she is always so busy taking care of others, Nurse Capuano rarely gets the chance to step away from her office. She is one of those true behind-the-scenes heroes whose dedication keeps our school running smoothly each day. I am grateful for Nurse Capuano’s commitment, her steady presence, and the countless ways she supports our entire school community. Thank you for everything you do for our students and staff. You make a difference every single day.

Alexa Williams

Alexa is a student leader who is active on our PBIS team and our student senate. Her whole friend group raises eyebrows for being a force of positivity and yet, even in this group, she stands out. She maintains excellent grades in challenging classes and she is always the first to say "hi." Alexa embodies what it means to be ready, respectful, and responsible. Alexa makes our school culture better every day she is present.

Gianina Scharr

Gianina is a hardworking student who consistently gives her best effort in everything she does. She is always pleasant to be around, bringing a positive attitude that uplifts those to around her. She also goes out of her way to extend friendship to new students, helping them feel included and welcome.

Grant Wessel

Grant marches to his own drum, he's got style, original. The art work he created that was on display at Arts Alive seemed like it would have been made by someone who's spent way more years on this planet, but it was uniquely Grant's. Distinctive. I am excited to see what Grant Wessel does next and Sun Valley is lucky to have this valiant vanguard in the mix.

Diana Tema-Felix

Diana is a determined student that works hard in all areas, consistently putting in the effort needed to succeed. Her positive attitude not only helps her overcome obstacles, but inspires those around her. It has been a pleasure to get know over her over the past year at Sun Valley.

Braeden DiGiovanni

Braeden DiGiovanni is a two-time captain of the Hi-Q team and was also a pleasure to have in AP Physics class. Braeden is active in numerous clubs and activities, including the marching band where he is a section leader. He plans to attend Purdue University and study engineering.

Vincent Vonn

Vincent Vonn is one of the captains of the chess club, and after a strong victory this week against a tough opponent, he is in contention to be the top-rated chess player in our school.

Class of 2026

The Class of 2026 is seeking donations for the homecoming dance on October 4^th. All donations can be dropped off at Sun Valley on October 2-3 during school hours or on the 4^th beginning at 5:00.

Class of 2026 Disney Trip

We are happy to share that we are able to launch the official registration for your senior Disney trip today. This has allowed us to spread out the payments over a larger period of time.

Please visit the portal below to register for the trip. All registrations are due no later than 7:00 pm on September 15, 2025. When you register, you will be required to submit an initial payment of $100. Payments are then made monthly after that date. All payments will be through the trip portal. If you have already submitted a deposit, this will be credited to your trip after you complete the registration.

If you registered using the Google Form sent in June, you must still complete the official registration on the portal.

Class of 2029

The freshman class is busy working on Homecoming Float decorations. If your student is interested in joining the Class Committee for the Class of 2029, please tell them to listen in homeroom for announcements.

Any student who helps out with the preparation and building of the float and walks with the class in the parade will receive a free ticket to the homecoming football game Friday Oct. 3rd.

The class is in need of a flatbed for the parade float. If you can help us out with this please contact the freshman class sponsors, Mr. Henning or Mrs. Mal.

Important Freshman Academy Reminder: Over the summer, families of 9th grade students received information about the mandatory academic field trips this school year. Payment and permission slips are due on or before October 17th, and payments can be made online or turned into Mrs. Schneider (room B60) or Ms. Bondanza (room B259). If a student needs a new copy of the information and permission slip, he/she can stop by room B60.

The D&D Club meets Mondays and Thursdays after school.

MATH HONOR SOCIETY

The Math Honor Society will have their first meeting starting in October, and current members are asked to check the Schoology group for updates and announcements. Peer tutoring will also start back up in the MIC afterschool very soon.

Applications for new memberships will go out next week and will be due by Oct 3rd. You can also stop by B53 starting on 9/15/25 to pick up a copy.

The BSU promotes culturally relevant conversations, advocates for students who feel overlooked or misrepresented, and encourages student empowerment. We embrace our cultural heritage, unity, and the appreciation of diversity.

SCIENCE NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY

Students interested in joining Sun Valley’s Science National Honors Society are invited to apply. Students must meet the following requirements:

Entering grades 11 and 12
Must have at least a B course grade in all science classes
Be willing to complete 10 service hours throughout the year

GSA

GSA will meet for the first time this year on Monday 9/22 in Miss Willow's room - A4.

GSA is open to all LGBTQIA+ students and Allies! We are always looking for student leaders who want to make a difference at Sun Valley.

ART CLUB/NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

Art Club will start back up Wednesday 9/17 and will be held every Wednesday (unless otherwise told) until Arts Alive in May!

Anyone is welcome to join Art Club, letters for invitations to National Art Honor Society will go out to students who express interest who meet the requirements.

NEWSPAPER CLUB

Are you interested in writing, editing, art or photography? If so, join the Newspaper Club! The first meeting for Newspaper Club will be Monday, September 15, in B-44 after school. All are welcome to attend. We will discuss plans and a publishing schedule for the 2025-2026 school year.

We are always looking for new members interested in writing, editing, photography, or videography.

Yearbook will have a general interest meeting on 9/15 in room B259 at 2:20pm.

FCCLA CLUB

FCCLA will be meeting in Mrs. Grady’s room A-2 on Wednesday at 2:20. Everyone is welcome. We would love to grow our club.

FCCLA will meet every other Wednesday starting September 17th in A-2 at 2:20pm.

The Chess Club meets on Wednesdays after school in room B-245. Beginners and advanced players are welcome. When you lose, you learn. When you win, you teach.

GAMING CLUB

"Video Game Club or E-Gaming Club meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, after school from 2:15PM to 3:15PM. You do not need to sign up, and attendance is not mandatory, show up when you please!

We usually play games that are local Co-Op, and the Nintendo Switch is what we use most due to its portability.

BRING YOUR OWN GAMES as they will not be provided, we are a collaborative group who share and work together. If you would like something added just ask!

We have three different AV set-ups so up to three groups of students may play at any given time!"

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM

The Science Olympiad Team will meet on Tuesdays after school in D-97.
