Hello Sun Valley Families!
We are in teh first full week of December and about to hit the Marking Period 2 half way point at the end of the week. This is an important time to have a discussion with your student about their progress for this quarter. Please review with them their Schoology gradebooks.
We will be on an advisory day bell schedule on Tuesday.
There is a lot of happenings around Sun Valley, please review all the information below. Highlights include the Winter Formal information and new staff/student's of the week! Check it all out!

Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser has started and sales end on December 7th! Bundts will be delivered to the sellers on December 20th, so make sure to purchase some bundt cakes from a Junior to enjoy during the holidays. Juniors interested in selling, pick up an order form outside Ms. Benson or Ms. Scarcelli's room. | |
ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS!!!
Registration for the Junior Class trip to Williamsburg Virginia, May 31st - June 2nd is now live. Registration and payment will be processed through an Educational Travel Tours portal that also provides all of the trip information as well. Access the portal using this link: Sun Valley Junior Class Trip Portal - the first deposit is $100 and due January 5th.
A video has been created that explains how to access the portal, how the pricing works, and how the cost is expected to decrease once we have final numbers. Please watch the video in its entirety, and reach out with questions! Junior Class Trip Information and Registration Video.

Students interested in scheduling a visit to DCTS during the school day should fill out the request form linked in the Schoology Class of 2025, 2026 and 2027 groups. Your counselor will then notify the student and parent via email once the date of the visit is confirmed with DCTS. The visit request form will close on 12/22/23.
Also, as a reminder DCTS is having an open house next week at both the Folcroft and Aston Campuses for parents and students to attend. No registration is required. The Aston open house is 12/7 from 5:30-7 pm and the Folcroft open house is 12/5 from 5:30-7 pm. Please review the flyers in this newsletter for more information about the programs offered at the various locations.

The Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy is holding a used toy drive from November 27th through December 8th. Please bring any used and unwrapped toys and drop them in the box located in the Main Lobby. We will be distributing the toys to children in need within our community. | Reminder: The Freshmen Academy trip will be this Friday, December 8th. They will be attending a performance of A Christmas Carol at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. | The National Honor Society is sponsoring a clothing drive to support the Domestic Abuse Project and Nana’s Attic starting December 4th through December 14th. Please consider gathering some gently used clothing to donate to others during this season of giving. All donations can be placed in the collection area of the lobby. Thank you for your support and the NHS wishes you a joyous holiday season. | National Honor Society is excited to be hosting this year’s Winter Formal on January 19th. The dance will be held in the Sun Valley cafeteria from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Tickets will go on sale after winter break. | Science tutoring will be held after school from 2:20-2:55. Please see Mrs. Wiest or Ms. Phelps with any questions. | |

This week's Staff Member of the week is Ms. Amanda Wessel, Language Arts Teacher.
Ms. Wessel is a well-rounded educator who can speak on many topics; she is always willing to have a fun chat with both students and staff. She has an upbeat attitude and she brings her enthusiasm and sense of style to all she does in the classroom and in the school as a whole. As an active member of the PBiS staff and student committees and a member of the Wellness committee, she demonstrates a commitment to student and staff success and overall well being. Ms. Wessel brings a positive attitude to our school and I am grateful for all she does for our community.

JEFFREY OKINE
Jeffrey is a wonderful student to have in class. I have Jeffrey 1st period and he participates daily. He is kind, helps others when they need help, and he turns in his work on time every single time. Thanks for being such a great student, Jeffrey.

LUKE FERRIOLA
Luke is a pleasure to have in class. He always comes to class with a smile on his face, and every morning he says good morning. Luke is always invested in our work and is always ready to ask a question and participate. He brings a good attitude, energy, and many laughs to class.

Evan is always polite, friendly and respectful. Regardless of his late night hockey games he always makes it to school the next day!

ATTENTION STUDENTS:
Penn-Delco provides a late bus for students who stay after school everyday, Monday through Thursday. Students should be in the lobby before 3:45 p.m. Please check with the driver to make sure you board the appropriate bus. Please note that there is NO late bus on Fridays.

Attention 10th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University on June 14-16, 2024. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.
Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley. The application link is posted in Schoology for the Class of 2026 under Upcoming Events. Submissions must be received by December 4th or sooner. If you have questions, please e-mail Mrs. Im (fim@pdsd.org).
