Hello Sun Valley Families!


We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are excited to welcome everyone in the month of December this week! December is always a busy month and has a number of full weeks for teaching and learning to occur!


Please be reminded that marking period report cards are available in Skyward. Please take some time to review your students performance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are pleased to share that Sun Valley had 19 students from the music department audition for the District 12 ensembles on Saturday 11/18. 

Out of the 19 that auditioned, Sun Valley had 13 students make it into the District ensembles!! These 13 students will participate in a District Festival.


District 12 Band Festival is on January 12th  & 13th at Avon Grove High School. The students listed below will be attending.

District 12 Orchestra Festival is on February 9th & 10th at Phoenixville High School. The student listed below will be attending.

We are so proud of all of our students that took the audition. The above 13 students will have an opportunity to audition for the Region Festivals and we shall see how they do!!!

Starting On Wednesday, November 1, 2023 the members of FCCLA will be collecting money for books for a school in Cambodia. This school has special meaning due to one of our current students and several of our past students having a family connection to the school. Please feel free to donate any and all change to any FCCLA members you see walking around with a container labeled, Book for Cambodia. We will be collecting for the month of November. We have a goal of 150.00 but would love to far surpass that goal!!!

Auditions for this year’s musical, Catch Me If You Can will take place on Thursday, November 30th starting at 3 pm in the auditorium. Any student planning to audition needs to fill out the digital audition form in advance, which can be found in the theatre Google classroom. If you need the Google classroom code, or would like hard copies of audition materials, please stop into the Sun Valley Choir room. Please contact Mrs. Hazlett with any questions.

The Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy is holding a used toy drive from November 27th through December 8th. Please bring any used and unwrapped toys and drop them in the box located in the Main Lobby. We will be distributing the toys to children in need within our community.

 Science tutoring will be held after school from 2:20-2:55. Please see Mrs. Wiest or Ms. Phelps with any questions. 

MHS Peer tutoring continues in the MIC after school- please check the updates on Schoology for availability.

STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK

This week's Staff Member of the week is Mrs. Jennifer Maiale, Science Teacher.


Mrs. Maiale is a dedicated, passionate, and thoughtful teacher. She cares deeply about the educational experience in her classes for her students and is always trying to improve. As National Honor Society Advisor, she both gives back to the community and encourages her students to do the same. Mrs. Maiale is a thoughtful sounding board and a great colleague with whom to work. Congrats, Mrs. Maiale!

Student Senate will meet Thursday, November 30th at 2:20 p.m. in room A-2.


ANIMATION CLUB


The "old school animation club" will meet on Wednesdays, after school at 2:20 p.m. in room D99 with Mr. Breiling. Come on out and join the fun!

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD


Science Olympiad Club will meet on Tuesdays after school in Room B-241. New members are welcome!  


ROBOTICS CLUB


The Robotics Club will meet every Friday after school in Room D97.

GAMING CLUB


Attention Gamers: If you are looking for something fun to do after school, like to game, and want to meet new friends, come to Mr. DiProspero's room, C88, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2:15 until 3:15 and test your skills.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:


Penn-Delco provides a late bus for students who stay after school everyday, Monday through Thursdays. Students should be in the lobby before 3:45 p.m. Please check with the driver to make sure you board the appropriate bus. Please note that there is NO late bus on Fridays.

COUNSELING NEWS!!!

Attention 10th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University on June 14-16, 2024. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.


Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley. The application link is posted in Schoology for the Class of 2026 under Upcoming Events. Submissions must be received by December 4th or sooner. If you have questions, please e-mail Mrs. Im (fim@pdsd.org).
