Hello Sun Valley Families!

Welcome Back! We are very excited for another great year!



To start the year we will be reviewing many of the important policies

and expectations that are in the Family and Student Handbook. We

highly encourage all families to thoroughly review our handbook so that

you are aware of all of our policies and procedures. Doing so allows us

to continue to raise the bar for all Sun Valley students. The Handbook

can be found HERE.

Our school wide behavioral expectations focus around being Ready,

Respectful and Responsible. It is our belief that if we can continue to

thrive to be great in these areas our successes can be endless.

Students must be prepared to attend each day of school and class on

time (in class before 7:30). They must be fully engaged in the learning

process in each of their scheduled courses while keeping their cell

phones/earbuds away during instructional time. We ask that you support

us in our cell phone policy to ensure students respect the learning

process while still having access to their devices in a responsible

manner.

Attention New Sun Valley Students in grades 10-12!

Sun Valley would like to ensure you are prepared for your First Day on Wednesday, September 3rd!

Please join us for an optional welcome on Tuesday 9.2.25 at 1:15 pm. This brief orientation will provide you with a chance to meet the Sun Valley Counseling Team, take a picture for your school ID (this picture can be retaken on Picture Day for yearbook purposes), receive and log into your school provided chrome book, and take a tour around the building. If you are a bus rider, you will be eligible to ride home when you are dismissed at 2:15, otherwise you will need to arrange your own transportation. Bus routes can be found here.

Welcome back, Vanguards!

The Sun Valley English Department hopes you had an enjoyable summer, and we are looking forward to getting to know you in September! 

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Summer Reading is due to your English teacher the first week of school; please see the appropriate grade/course document on the Sun Valley website, under Academics, for detailed information. Questions regarding Summer Reading can be emailed to Lauren Schneider, the Language Arts Department Head, at lschneider@pdsd.org, or to the English teacher listed on your schedule. We are looking forward to a fun school year of learning ahead!

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley. 

• Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror. 
• The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police. 
• No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning. 
• The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time. 

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Mrs. McCarthy's pick for Staff Member of the Week: Mr. Vaccaro

She writes, I would like to nominate Frank Vaccaro for Teacher of the Week. He brings much-needed humor to our wing and helps keep the energy positive and upbeat. His STEM classes promote creative thinking and hands-on problemsolving, and he always includes the importance of Art in STEM—making it STEAM. It’s not unusual to see robots rolling through the halls or ping pong balls flying from student-built catapults. Frank also advises the Robotics Club and is great at building strong connections with his students. His classroom is a place where learning is engaging, inventive, and fun.

Class of 2026 Disney Trip

We are happy to share that we are able to launch the official registration for your senior Disney trip today. This has allowed us to spread out the payments over a larger period of time.

Please visit the portal below to register for the trip. All registrations are due no later than 7:00 pm on September 15, 2025. When you register, you will be required to submit an initial payment of $100. Payments are then made monthly after that date. All payments will be through the trip portal. If you have already submitted a deposit, this will be credited to your trip after you complete the registration.

If you registered using the Google Form sent in June, you must still complete the official registration on the portal.

Attention 12^th grade students:

For Attendance in Pennsylvania Schools, all 12^th grade students must receive a dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) given at age 16 or older. 

Anyone who has not received the required vaccination and submitted their immunization record will be excluded from school on Wednesday, September 10. Any questions, please contact the nurse’s office at EXT. 2373. Thank you.

Dear Class of 2026 Students and Parents/Guardians,

Students who plan to take an SAT exam in the Fall of 2025, it is highly recommended you secure your spot now! Registration for fall test dates are now open! We recommend that rising seniors try to schedule a test session in August, September or October so students can get their scores back before many Early Action (November 1st) application deadlines. 

Below are the dates College Board will be offering the SAT this fall. Sun Valley will host the September and October test administrations. Scores are typically available to students in 2 weeks from their test date. To register, students need to log into their College Board account at www.collegeboard.org to register. Late registrations have an additional fee assessed.
