Important Information

Springfield Pharmacy will offer flu shots for registered Sun Valley Students on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 1:15 p.m.

An online consent form must be completed prior to 10/28. Consent forms can be found on the Penn-Delco Website.

Cabaret Club Performance

The Cabaret Club performance will be on October 23^rd at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance at sunvalley.ludus.com or at the door.

Dear Students, Educators, and Families,

We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the Emerge Program Youth Leadership Fellowship, a dynamic and free 6-week program empowering high school students across the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (EDPA) to lead with vision, voice, and purpose.

In partnership with the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and The Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement, this program gives students the tools, mentorship, and confidence to become the next generation of civic and community leaders.

Program Dates:

Date: November 1 – January 13 (No session on November 29)

Location: Fels Institute of Government, University of Pennsylvania & community sites

Time: Saturdays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Cost: FREE!

Eligibility Criteria:

✔️ Open to students in grades 10–12 in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

✔️ Curious about leadership, government, and public service

✔️ Ready to make a difference in your school or community

✔️ Committed to learning, growing, and leading with integrity

✔️ Must provide the name and email of a teacher for recommendation

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley.

Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror.
The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police.
No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning.
The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time.

3 Ways to Report your Students Attendance

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

PTL dues are $10 per family this year. This can be paid with cash, a check payable to Sun Valley PTL or Venmo using the information above.

Students earn Sun Dollars by being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. They can redeem those Sun Dollars for SV gear at the Sun Dollar store every Wednesday.

Mrs. Grady's pick for Staff Member of the Week: Mrs. Gill

She writes, I would like to nominate JaneMarie Gill for the staff member of the week. She has done a fabulous job in a role that I personally would never want. She goes to bat for each and every one of us, and she is extremely persistent when she knows that one way will be more beneficial to the students and the teachers than another. Thank you, JaneMarie for everything that you do for not only myself, my clubs, but the entire school community.

Addison Lawler

Addison is a leader in all her school activities from National Art Honor Society and Art Club to being the lead Yearbook photographer, she is an advocate for anyone who needs it. She is a very hard worker that puts a lot on their shoulders and still accomplishes it. She is a good artist who thinks critically and creates contemporary art with real meaning to it. She is always there to listen when someone needs a shoulder and expresses real empathy for others.

Zakiyah Sanyeneh

Zakyah is only in 10th grade and she has already proven to be a real school leader. Zakiyah has been a big part of the PBIS team this year and her goal is always to make school a more fun place for All! Zakiyah is also a very good artist who always has very creative and original ideas. She is self motivated which may be the best quality you can have!

This week’s Student of the Week, Nicholas Nawn, is recognized for his pleasant and friendly demeanor. He consistently brightens our hallways by greeting others by name and offering kind words that make everyone feel valued and seen. Attention 10^th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10^th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University in June. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.

Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley. Use this link to complete the essay and submit a resume if you are interested in applying.

If your student is interested in joining the Class Committee for the Class of 2029, please tell them to listen in homeroom for announcements.

Important Reminder for ALL 9th Grade Students: Over the summer, families of incoming freshmen received information and permission slips for the mandatory Freshman Academy Curricular Trips. Payment (online or check/money order) is DUE on or before October 17th. Please see Mrs. Schneider in B60 or Ms. Bondanza in B259 if you have any questions. Permission slips and check payments can be turned into Homeroom teachers.

The D&D Club meets Mondays and Thursdays after school in C73

MATH HONOR SOCIETY

The Math Honor Society will have their next meeting for all members on November 12th (in the MIC afterschool) and are asked to check the Schoology group for announcements and resources. Peer tutoring is also available in the MIC after school on scheduled days (there will be updates posted in Schoology throughout the year).

National English Honors Society (NEHS) applications are now available in folders outside of Ms. Starinieri (B 56) and Ms. Mancarella’s (B 58) rooms. Applications are DUE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10/17 END OF DAY!

The BSU promotes culturally relevant conversations, advocates for students who feel overlooked or misrepresented, and encourages student empowerment. We embrace our cultural heritage, unity, and the appreciation of diversity.

SCIENCE NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY

Science tutoring is available after school in the MIC Monday- Thursday from 2:15- 2:55, unless there is a scheduled meeting. If you require tutoring during lunch or a study hall, please let your science teacher know and we will find a tutor for you.

GSA

GSA is open to all LGBTQIA+ students and Allies! We are always looking for student leaders who want to make a difference at Sun Valley.

ART CLUB/NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

Art Club meetings will be held every Wednesday (unless otherwise told) until Arts Alive in May!

Anyone is welcome to join Art Club, letters for invitations to National Art Honor Society will go out to students who express interest who meet the requirements.

NEWSPAPER CLUB

Are you interested in writing, editing, art or photography? If so, join the Newspaper Club! We will discuss plans and a publishing schedule for the 2025-2026 school year.

Meetings are on Mondays 2:20pm - 3:15pm. We are working on our first issue now and our expected publishing date is 10/10. Meeting are held in B44 and all are welcome to attend.

We are always looking for new members interested in writing, editing, photography, or videography.

STUDENT SENATE

Student Senate is collecting cans for Camp Out for Hunger. Each homeroom will receive a box. The homeroom that collects the most cans/dry goods will receive a free breakfast. The collection will run from October 10, 2025-November 10, 2025.

These are the most needed items:

· Canned/shelf-stable meats (Including tuna)

· Jelly (Plastic containers only)

· Canned fruits & vegetables (low salt, no high fructose corn syrup)

Only boxes, cans, plastic containers or non-breakable jars and which do not have to be refrigerated can be collected.

E-GAMING CLUB

"Video Game Club or E-Gaming Club meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, after school from 2:15PM to 3:15PM. You do not need to sign up, and attendance is not mandatory, show up when you please!

We usually play games that are local Co-Op, and the Nintendo Switch is what we use most due to its portability.

BRING YOUR OWN GAMES as they will not be provided, we are a collaborative group who share and work together. If you would like something added just ask!

We have three different AV set-ups so up to three groups of students may play at any given time!"

Wildlife Leadership Academy – Interested in learning more about wildlife, fisheries and conservation?

5 day summer programs available at field schools. The trainings begin with a rigorous period of residential programming that focus on a special topic in conservation that teaches about ecology, recreation, as well as leadership skills development and continues with community outreach through education, service, media engagement, creative arts, and outdoor mentorship. Areas of focus include: Bucktails (white-tailed deer), Bass, Brookies (brook trout), Gobblers (turkey) and Ursids (black bears) along with their habitats. For Youth ages 14-17, programs run June and July 2026 in Madisonburg, PA
