Hello Sun Valley Families!

This week we spent time on the announcements each day reviewing our school wide expectations. We focused on what it means to be Ready, Respectful and Responsible.

We also want to ensure we highlight important policies for our students & families. Our most important policies can be found in our Student & Family Handbook. Which can be found HERE.

I would like to highlight our policies on student attendance (starting on page 46) and what constitutes a lawful excused absence vs an unexcused absence and how these attendance codes can effect student grades. Please take a moment to review these.

Please note all guests/visitors must have an ID to enter the school and only important school business should be handled via the school office during school hours. Additionally, non students of SVHS are not permitted to loiter on school property.

Finally, please ensure you scroll through this entire newsletter as there is so much information on the happenings around SVHS! We continue to thank you for your continued support making SVHS a great place to be!

ATTENTION SENIORS:

All seniors and their families should have received information regarding ordering your cap and gown. The cost of your cap, gown and tassel will be covered by the senior class, but you need to register for it ASAP. The deadline to order is Wednesday, October 25^th. You can do so online simply by visiting www.sscgradstore.com. You may also order your official graduation apparel, keepsakes, or graduation ring at the same time. For additional information or further questions, please contact Student Services Company at 610-539-1330 or email gowns@studentservicesco.com.

FRESHMAN ACADEMY FIELD TRIP

The Freshman Academy is planning a field trip to see A Christmas Carol at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. The date is December 8th, but payment will be due October 27th. Stay tuned for additional information and permission slips.

ATTENTION STUDENTS

Attention all students: We were contacted by the property owners of the office building located at 2901 W. Dutton's Mill Road ( adjacent to Buggy Field) as a courtesy.  NO Sun Valley Students are permitted to park in their parking lot.

Any student parking in their lot is subject to towing (at vehicle owner’s expense).

At this time, we have sold all available student parking spaces. We have students and staff who arrive and leave at various times throughout the day, so even if a spot may appear to be vacant; it is assigned to someone and therefore not available. No student is permitted to park in staff parking at any time.  

Pennsylvania CareerLink is offering Extended Hours at DCCC on classes and extra help for students who seek help with resumes, job seeking and training programs.

All classes are offered FREE on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 3:30 and 7:00 pm. Walk-In friendly.

 Science tutoring will be held after school from 2:20-2:55. Please see Mrs. Wiest or Ms. Phelps with any questions. 

The next Sun Valley PTL meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. We will post the link the week of the meeting.

The Math Honor Society monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 24^th at 2:20 in the MIC - all should plan to attend. 

MHS Peer tutoring continues in the MIC - after school. Please be sure to check the posted schedule in Schoology - reach out to Mrs. Caputo in B53 if you have any questions.  

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH INFORMATION

As we are preparing for the beginning of the school year, please see the attached copy of the 2023-2024 paper application for free and reduced lunches along with the instructions from USDA. The purpose of this information is to provide parents/guardians access to the necessary forms.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:

Please note that Penn-Delco provides a late bus everyday Monday through Thursdays only. Students should be in the lobby before 3:45 p.m. Please check with the driver to make sure you board the appropriate bus. Please note that there is NO late bus on Fridays.

The Delaware County Technical School will be visiting Sun Valley High School on November 17^th during 3^rd period in the MIC to talk to interested students about DCTS programming and inform students about the application process which opens in December.

Interested students will need to sign up in advance. The DCTS Presentation sign up link is posted in the Class of 2025, 2026, and 2027 Schoology Groups under ‘Upcoming Events’. Current 9^th grade students should only sign up if interested in applying for the Cosmetology program next year. All other 9^th grade students will hear a similar presentation from the DCTS representative in their Careers or Windows on the World class this year. Current 10^th and 11^th grade students can sign up to attend for interest in any program.

Upcoming College Visits

Attention Seniors/Juniors: You must pre-register on Naviance in order to attend any college visits. Registration closes 8 hours prior to each visits

Attention Students: Ultimate Frisbee Club registration begins Friday October, 20^th.

Powder Puff will be held on Tuesday November 21st, and kick off will be at 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in participating, coaching, or just purchasing a shirt, first fill out the Google Form https://forms.gle/X4ypuT5auPahvZZS7, also located on Schoology, and then pay with cash at lunch from 10/23 through 10/31. Money will be donated to Parkside's Food Pantry!

Attention all 9^th-12^th grade boys interested in trying out for Basketball. There will be a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, October 24^th, at 2:30 in the cafeteria. All interested players have to attend.

There is also an open gym for all students planning to try out on Thursday, October 26^th, in Sun Valley’s Gym at 6:00 p.m.

Attention Winter Athletes: All PIAA Physicals and Section 7 Re-certification forms are due to the Athletic Office by Friday, November 3^rd. PIAA packets and Section 7 forms can be printed from the Sun Valley – Athletic website under FORMS or picked up from the Athletic Office.
