It's Homecoming week!
All event information is in the box below! We hope you all participate in the fun and school spirit!
We have reached the mid marking period! Please review your students academic progress in Skyward.
A reminder on this week's PSAT test:
The PSAT is being administered at SVHS on Wednesday October 9th. This is a district wide half day of school.
Students in grades 10 and 11 are automatically registered to take the PSAT. 9th grade students who would like to take the test must opt in using the form sent to parent emails.
All 12th grade students and 9th grade students who do not opt in do not need to report on 10/9/24.
We have so much going on at the Valley. Please thoroughly review all the opportunities below and encourage your student's participation!

Spirit Week Themes
Students will get a raffle ticket at lunch for being dressed in spirit wear, so please encourage them to dress up to earn a prize.

Freshmen: Frosh/Soph Dance Ticket
Sophomores: Frosh/Soph Dance Ticket AND a $20 Wawa Gift Card Juniors: 1 Junior Prom Ticket

HOMECOMING DANCE
The Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, October 12th at Sun Valley, from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Tickets cost $15 and students may bring 1 guest. If this guest does not attend Sun Valley, a permission slip must have been turned in and approved before ticket purchase. Sun Valley students must be academically eligible when the report is run. NO REFUNDS!

HOT HOMEROOM OF THE MONTH
On Tuesday, 10/1/24 we acknowledged and rewarded the HOT homeroom for the month of September 2024. By HOT we mean Here On Time; this group of students had the fewest number of lates or absences, in any of their classes, in the month of September. This month's HOT homeroom is in the class of 2027, last names beginning with Rya to Sz, room A031, homeroom teachers Mrs. Powers and Dr. James. Congratulations and enjoy your reward. Barksdale Absentee and Retake Picture Day

The Freshman Academy Theatre trip to see A Christmas Carol at the Walnut Street Theatre will be on Wednesday, December 18th. The cost is $25.00.
The deadline for payment is Thursday, November 7th.
Payment can be made online via Schoolpay by visiting your schoology course for English class or with a check or money order made out to Penn-Delco or exact cash turned into your Survey of Literature or ELA I teacher, along with your permission slip.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!
Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

POWDERPUFF MEETING
The powderpuff game will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 7:00 in the stadium. It is free to attend the game, but donations to the Gift of Life are Welcome and Appreciated.
Only those students who have paid to coach/play in the game will be permitted on the track and sidelines. All other students must remain in the bleachers. Please see a Junior class officer with questions.

She writes, "I am nominating Meredith Benson for Staff Member of the Week! Ms. Benson plays a very important role here at SV as the Senior Class advisor, she has been working diligently on all things Homecoming so I thought she would be the perfect person to celebrate this week. Ms. Benson’s dedication to her students does not go unnoticed, you can always find her working with students before and after school. Her motivation and hard work are things I admire, I am very very lucky to get to work with her."

ARIANNA FAUST

Arianna has done a great job in chemistry class so far. She is always on time and ready to learn. She often participates in class and maintains a positive attitude while working hard and setting a great example for others. Arianna usually leaves class saying "Thank you!" or "Have a great day!" and I look forward to that daily. I'm excited to see all Arianna can accomplish throughout the year.

NEWSPAPER CLUB
The newspaper club runs and operates Sun Valley Social (sunvalleysocial.wordpress.com), a student led news website. The website features student art, photographs, and videos, as well as articles about extra-curriculars, school events, local news, sports, the arts, and other topics of interest to the Penn-Delco community. Sun Valley Social offers an alternative forum for members of the school community to express their thoughts on important issues and share their creativity.
We are always looking for new members interested in writing, editing, photography, or videography. Meetings are held each Monday at 2:20pm in room B44 all are welcome!

SUN VALLEY STAGE CREW
Mr. Pry and Mr. Bittner held the first meeting of the Sun Valley Stage Crew this week. A large group of students attended, but we are always happy to add to the group. We discussed the functions of a crew, and plans to teach students the intricacies of working on state of the art technical equipment.

The Yearbook Club will be meeting Monday & Tuesday in Ms. Willow's room and Wednesday & Thursday in Ms. Bondanza's room. All students interested in working on the yearbook should plan to attend one of the sessions so you can get your Yearbook Avenue credentials.

GAMING CLUB
"Video Game Club or E-Gaming Club meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, after school from 2:15PM to 3:15PM. You do not need to sign up, and attendance is not mandatory, show up when you please!
We usually play games that are local Co-Op, and the Nintendo Switch is what we use most due to its portability.
BRING YOUR OWN GAMES as they will not be provided, we are a collaborative group who share and work together. If you would like something added just ask!
We have three different AV set-ups so up to three groups of students may play at any given time!"

Sun Valley will be hosting a Financial Aid Webinar on October 9th at 6:00 pm with Fran McKeown from PHEAA (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency). She will be covering important information for students and parents about applying for financial aid, the recent changes to FAFSA with the FAFSA Simplification Act, grants and loans, and much more.
The webinar will be recorded and posted to the Sun Valley Counseling website the next day for any parents who are unable to join us live.

Attention 10th graders: Do you see yourself as a leader here at Sun Valley High School? Are you interested in continuing to develop your leadership skills? If so, consider submitting an application to attend the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for a 10th grader from our school to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The seminar will be held at Neumann University on June 13-15, 2025. Students must be able to attend all sessions for the entire weekend.
Applications will be reviewed and one student will be selected to attend from Sun Valley. The application link is posted in Schoology for the Class of 2027 under Upcoming Events. Philadelphia Architecture and Design College Fair
Sunday, October 20, 2024, 10:00am- 2:00pm at Temple University, Tyler School of Arts and Architecture, 2001 N 13th St, Philadelphia, PA 19122. This is a free, in-person event for high school and college students, parents, teachers, and counselors interested in learning about educational opportunities in architecture and other built environment design disciplines at the undergraduate and master's degree level.
We’ll be available to discuss our admissions process, programs, and general information. In addition to the fair, there will be panel discussions.
