March is women's history month and we encourage the Sun Valley community to engage in reflecting and celebrating the amazing achievements of women throughout history!

SOPH HOP!
Tickets for the Sophomore Dance are on sale through February 29, 2024. Students must fill out this form in order to purchase tickets. Tickets are $20. Each Sophomore may bring one guest if they would like. Anyone bringing a guest who is NOT a current SVHS student must complete a guest form. Guest forms are available in the main office and must be turned in to Mr. Moletteri no later than February 29, 2024. SVHS students will be required to scan their school ID. Non SVHS guests must present a photo ID at check in.
Tickets may be paid for by using this school pay link, or can be brought in to Mr. Moletteri or Mrs. Hill via cash or check. Checks must be made out to the Class of 2026.
Students must be academically eligible (failing no more than one class), have no disciplinary problems, be on time to school, present for every class, and have no outstanding fines in order to participate in any school event.
If you have more than six lates or unexcused absences in MP3, according to Scholarchip or Skyward, from 1/29/2024 to 3/1/2024, you may not be permitted to attend the Sophomore Dance on 3/8/2024.
If this school privilege is revoked by SV Administration, you may not receive a refund for your ticket already purchased and your guest may not attend either. No bags/backpacks are permitted at dances. Small purses will be subject to search prior to entry.

Junior Prom will be held at Camden's Adventure Aquarium on Friday, April 19th from 6:30 - 10 PM. Junior Prom tickets will be sold online the week of March 11th - 15th for $85. If a junior is interested in bringing a guest to prom who does not attend Sun Valley, a guest form must be filled out by March 8th. Guest forms can be picked up outside of Ms. Benson or Ms. Scarcelli's classroom. Please see below a link to the junior prom informational letter.

Senior prom will take place Friday May 3rd at the Waterfall in Claymont, DE from 7-11PM. Seniors wishing to attend senior prom must be academically eligible (not failing 2 or more courses according to the APRIL 26th eligibility run), have good school attendance, and a clean discipline record as determined by Sun Valley Administration. Tickets cannot not be refunded if students become ineligible. The privilege to attend prom may be taken away by administration based on discipline and discipline resolutions and there can be no refunds. In addition, there will be no transfer of ticket(s) from one student to another or from one guest to another.
Guests outside of Sun Valley High School must complete a permission form and submit a photocopy of a picture ID at the time of ticket purchase. ID may be a school ID if a guest attends high school, otherwise ID must show proof of age. All guests must be under the age of 21! Guest forms are outside of Ms. Lansberry's room, C-83.
Senior prom tickets will be sold the week of March 19th - March 21st for $85. THERE CANNOT BE REFUNDS!

FCCLA is collecting towels, blankets, sheets for the local animal shelters. We will also take any dog/cat toys as well. We will be collecting from February 26 until March 8th. You can drop them off in A-2 Mrs. Grady’s room. | |
Rho Kappa National Honor Society in Social Studies meet for the first time this month. Students received information of applying to be a poll watcher in the upcoming May elections as well as information on getting involved with the Aston Township Historical Society. Students also are going to hold a voter registration drive after they return from Spring Break. | |
The PBIS Store continues to be open every Wednesday during all lunch periods. Be sure to keep earning and redeeming your Sun Dollars for prizes!! | |

MRS. MALONE
I choose Mrs. Malone for Staff Member of the Week. I have had the pleasure of co-teaching with Mrs. Malone for the past two years and her dedication to the students does not go unnoticed. Everyday she comes in with a smile on her face and never hesitates to talk to someone new. Mrs. Malone makes everyone in her presence feel welcome, and I am very appreciative of everything she has done and helped me with. Keep up the great work!

PHOENIX BROWN
Mr. Passen has selected Phoenix Brown as student of the week. Phoenix is a hard worker who always gives his best in class. He is naturally curious and asks great questions about topics we are learning to expand on his own understanding. He is kind and a strong leader when he works in groups with his peers.

MOHAMED KASSIM
Mr. Passen has chosen Mohamed Kassim as student of the week. Mohamed is a very respectful student that tries his hardest every single day. He is a willing participant in class discussions for both forensics and general science. His positive demeanor sets the mood in the class each day and helps to encourage other students to do their best as well.

Ms. Maxwell has chose Scott Mathues as student of the week. With his exceptional kindness, respect, and exemplary manners, Scott embodies the true essence of compassion. He consistently going out of his way to support and uplift those around him. He treats everyone with respect and kindness. Whether lending a helping hand, offering words of encouragement, or simply sharing a warm smile, Scott leaves a positive impact on all those around him. His unwavering politeness and respectful demeanor create a welcoming atmosphere within our school community, fostering a sense of belonging and unity.

Ms. Maxwell has chosen Jayda McCollough for student of the week. With her unwavering dedication to her school work, pleasant demeanor, and exceptional work ethic, Jada shines as a beacon of positivity in our school community. She is willing to go above and beyond in all her endeavors, she consistently demonstrates a commendable attitude towards her studies and beyond. LUKE SKROBAK
Mr. Barry has selected Luke Skrobak as student of the week. Luke is a gentlemen in every sense of the word and it has been a pleasure an honor getting to know him within these past two years. Whether its chatting up Mr. Bell and I on the stock market or just having a talk about Philly sports, Luke demonstrates an uncanny ability to communicate not just with his peers but teachers and adults as well. Keep up the good work Luke!

GRACE ZIMMERMAN
Mr. Barry has also chosen Grace Zimmerman as student of the week. Grace is an impressive young lady who is highly motivated. Within the first class it was evident that Grace was going to be an active participant in her quest for well being. Whether its extra reps in the weight room to perfect her form, or just lending a hand to someone who needs a spot, Grace exemplifies Valley P.R.I.D.E. on a daily basis and I am honored to have her in class. Great work Grace!

ATTENTION STUDENTS:
Penn-Delco provides a late bus for students who stay after school everyday, Monday through Thursday. Students should be in the lobby by 3:40 p.m. Please check with the driver to make sure you board the appropriate bus. Please note that there is NO late bus on Fridays.

Do not forget to bring your college acceptance letters to the Counseling Office so we can recognize you for your achievements.
It’s getting to be scholarship season! Local scholarships that will be presented at the Senior Awards Banquet will start to be posted. Check Naviance and Schoology regularly for scholarship applications and be mindful of deadlines.

Check out information in the “College and Career Planning” Course in Schoology. There is a folder (titled “Summer Learning Opportunities”) where Summer College Courses/Camps are published from the counseling office. Keep an eye on the file if you are thinking of taking some college level courses this summer! Some amazing opportunities exist.

Attention Spring Athletes
Spring sports start Monday, March 4th. If you have not turned in your PIAA Physical packet or Section 7 Re-certification form to participate, you will not be able to try out or practice. All forms need to be turned into the Athletic Office directly and you have to be cleared before you can start. You can print the PIAA Physical or Re-certification form from the Sun Valley – Athletic website under FORMS or pick up a copy from the Athletic Office.
