Hello Sun Valley Families!

As promised January is a busy month. We are wrapping up Keystone restests this week. Our counselors will host a Junior Class Planning Webinar Monday evening. Zoom information will be sent separately.

This week we will release our Course Catalog for the 2026-2027 school year. Students will be expected to review this and prepare to request their courses for next school year starting Tuesday January the 20th. This is the opening of the course planner submission feature in Schoolinks. This window for submission will close on Tuesday January 27th at 3:00PM. Students will receive a helpful worksheet this week to prepare the course selections for when the window opens. We encourage families to have conversations with their student(s) on how these course selections fit in with their post secondary goals/plans.

Directly below this message you will find the Mid Term schedule that is fast approaching. Mid Terms run from Wednesday January 21st to Friday January 23rd. We are running a special special for these days. Please review it below. Students are welcome to stay following the dismissal to work directly with teachers or complete work in the MIC as arranged. We will be running late buses at 2:15 and 3:45 Tuesday and Wednesday and 12:00 and 2:15 on Friday. Attendance will be taken for each assigned mid term period. If a student does not have a scheduled period they do not need to report. Example: Friday is scheduled for period 7 & 8. If a student does not have a scheduled 7th and 8th period at SVHS they do not need to report.

Keystone Exam Retesting Information

Some students will be retaking one or more Keystone Exams during the testing window of January 5–16. Testing dates and locations for all students will be posted in Sun Valley’s lobby area beginning December 22, 2025. Homeroom teachers will also begin notifying their students of this information in mid-December.

All students who are scheduled to test must bring a fully charged Chromebook and charger, as all testing will be conducted online this year. All homeroom teachers will complete a Chromebook and charger check for every student during the week of December 15th.

Students who are testing must report to their assigned testing location by 7:30 AM, even if they normally have a first-period study hall. After students finish testing, they will return to their regularly scheduled classes. All other Sun Valley classes will follow the regular bell schedule.

Test proctors will take attendance in testing rooms. Students who are on the testing list must report to their assigned location on time. Late arrivals will result in disciplinary and attendance/truancy consequences.

Please note that all students’ electronic devices will be collected during the exam.

PROPS for Les Mis

Award Winning PROPS team for Theatre will start meeting Tuesday 1/13 after school in Miss Willow’s room A4. Props is a great opportunity for those looking to fill time before a sport practice, or looking for a creative outlet that is a little different! Consider helping with our theatre departments Props for this years musical – LES MIS! 

Would you like the perfect study space for midterms? Or make up work for the marking period? The MIC has it all – comfy chairs, outlets, snacks, brain break activities, and more. Come Wednesday through Friday during midterm week after dismissal! The MIC is open until 2:15. Stay as long or as little as needed. See you soon!

The Art Gallery at Delaware County Community College presents the tenth anniversary of the Regional High School Art Exhibition. This annual exhibition features work created in a wide variety of media by art students from high schools throughout Delaware and Chester Counties.

2026 participating high schools are: Academy Park, Avon Grove, Downingtown West, Garnet Valley, Haverford, Interboro, Marple Newtown, Penn Wood, Penncrest, Radnor, Ridley, Springfield, Strath Haven, Sun Valley, Upper Darby

NHS is proud to host Mini-Thon this year at Sun Valley. Mini-Thon is an event that raises money for childhood cancer in coordination with Four Diamonds and Penn State College of Medicine. Four Diamonds has been able to provide care and resources for families going through childhood cancer and support 90 pediatric research professionals at Penn State to create more effective treatments and to minimize long term side effects of a cancer diagnosis. The students will raise money for this cause and celebrate with a culminating event on April 10. ALL Sun Valley students are welcome to participate in this event! The NHS students are working hard to plan the event but a task like this needs everyone’s support. We will be hosting fundraising events throughout the school so keep an eye out for different events. Our first event is Mini-Thon at the 76ers. Please spread the word to family, friends, and the Penn Delco Community so we can have a successful Mini-Thon! FTK – For the Kids!!!

ITEM DROP OFF FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

This school year there will be a table in the vestibule for parents/guardians to drop off items for students. Please make sure to label the item with your students name and let them know that you have dropped the item off. Student may pick up their items between classes, during their lunch period or at the end of the school day.

Just a few reminders to everyone, regarding parking at and around Sun Valley. 

• Student parking at Sun Valley and Northley is in the numbered spots by permit only. Anyone parking without a valid parking pass is subject to disciplinary action. Anyone who has a parking pass must display it in the mirror. 
• The streets around Sun Valley are residential parking only, by permit. Parking in these areas are subject to ticketing by the Aston Police. 
• No parking is permitted at the office building located at 2901 Duttons Mill Road (next to Buggy Field, which houses Ware Medical and District Court.) You may be towed from this lot at any time, without warning. 
• The Aston Township Fire Department has their own internal permit process. Only those who have been approved in advance by the department may park there. Anyone without permission may be towed at any time.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!

Make sure you keep your Scholarchip ID swipe card in a safe place where you can find it easily. If you misplace your ID, you will need to purchase a new one. The cost of a temporary ID is $1.00 and the cost of a replacement ID is $5.00.

Wildlife Leadership Academy – Interested in learning more about wildlife, fisheries and conservation?

5 day summer programs available at field schools. The trainings begin with a rigorous period of residential programming that focus on a special topic in conservation that teaches about ecology, recreation, as well as leadership skills development and continues with community outreach through education, service, media engagement, creative arts, and outdoor mentorship. Areas of focus include: Bucktails (white-tailed deer), Bass, Brookies (brook trout), Gobblers (turkey) and Ursids (black bears) along with their habitats. He writes, Our custodial group has been spotlighted recently, but I want to nominate our head custodian for Staff Member of the Week due to his unrelenting positive attitude when confronted with the many demands that the system places on him and his department. Never flustered, always ready to help, Mr. Burch is exactly who you want in charge of such an important group that maintains our building on a daily basis throughout the year. Mr. Burch is here early and stays late, filling in for open shifts that need coverage. I am very thankful for all that he does to make Sun Valley the very best.
