New Beginnings
Annual Christmas brunch, cultural trips and a powerful story
January 2026, Vol 40
| | |
Greetings!
We are thrilled to be able to share so much good news!
In December we held our annual Christmas gathering, where we get updates from our students and they can exchange experiences. We also organized several cultural outings for the students to get to know each other better while visiting local historical sites. These short day trips during the Christmas vacation are a great chance for the student to take a much-needed break from their rigid work and study schedules. Additionally, we are excited to share with you a story so you can get to know one of our students.
Thank you for your support of Casa de Kids
and for accompanying both the staff and students throughout this process.
| | | On Sunday, December 8, a brunch was held to provide an opportunity for students to socialize. 23 students attended and had a chance to chat with other students in the program, play games, win prizes, and receive Christmas gifts. This event allowed us to catch up, celebrate the end of another year, and to have fun together.

Meet Kevin
A determined student progressing toward higher education
| |
|
Kevin Jonathan López Bolaños (far right in photo), is a young high school student whose greatest dream is to continue his studies and build a better future for himself and his family. He joined the Casa de Kids program in May 2025, and since then he has been able to focus on his academic education, leaving behind many of the financial concerns that made it difficult for him to continue attending high school.
Kevin has also begun to focus more on sports, playing on basketball teams and taking part in events such as the 2025 Telmex Basketball League. Today, thanks to the support of Casa de Kids, Kevin is not only able to continue his education, but also dedicate time to his greatest passion, basketball. We are deeply grateful to our donors who are helping him achieve his dreams.

Here in Oaxaca, many youth are raised near ancient historical sites they've never seen. Many families lack the funds necessary to visit these well-known sites, some of which date back thousands of years.
In December 2025 and January 2026, four field trips were organized with the students during their Christmas break including a trip to the ruins of San José Mogote, dating back to 3,000 BCE. Our group was able to climb and explore the ancient pyramidal structures that are considered to be the oldest permanent agricultural village in the Oaxaca Valley. It served as the local administrative center a thousand years before the ancent site of Monte Alban was built, which lies just a few miles south.
The second trip was a tour of the town Santa María Atzompa. In Atzompa, students attended a master ceramicist's presentation on the process of making ceramics with the local red clay and its trademark green glaze. This town's history of making ceramics is over 2,000 years old.
The thrid trip was a picnic held in Benito Juárez National Park, and on another day the students were invited to attend a film at a local cinema. Below are photos from the field trips.

Why Oaxaca?
Oaxaca de Jaurez is the capital of the state of Oaxaca (pronounced "Wah-há-kah"). While our state is famous for our indigenous artisans and culinary arts, it ranks as the country's third poorest and has one of the highest illiteracy rates. Its mountainous terrain makes commerce and education difficult, attracting many seeking a better life to the capital.
| | |
MISSION
To empower disadvantaged youth with
education and life skills, enabling them
to break cycles of poverty.
| | | |
VISION
A world where youth are treated with respect
and empowered through education, thriving
in equality, integrity and freedom, creating
the life of their dreams, while giving back
to their community.
