According to the AHA, 1 in 5 people will develop heart failure, which is more likely to occur in people 65+ and a leading cause of hospitalization.

Join Gian-Carlo Giove, MD as he discusses signs/symptoms of heart failure, as well as how to manage it through lifestyle changes, cardiac rehab, and medication. Lunch provided by Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

Lifelong Learning

Kayak with the Manatees - a few spaces available!

This Friday, February 16, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm

The Wakulla River, known for its clear, clean water is packed with wildlife, from blue heron, to mullet, to manatees and much more!

Enjoy a relaxing kayak trip, hosted by Harry Smith Outdoors, on this slow-moving river that is suitable for all ages and is a great place for beginners to learn how to paddle.

A Lady of Spain's Life in 1960's Georgia

Thurs., Feb. 22, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Amaya Portland of Spain met her African American husband Paul King while he worked and studied in Madrid. The couple took residence in Albany, Georgia in the 60's and raised their bi-cultural family there. Learn about the culture shock of coming from the freedom of Spain to live in Georgia during the 60's.

Connect with a Classic - Banned Book: To Kill a Mockingbird

Our popular Connect with a Classic series is back, and we are focusing on another classic banned book. This session will analyze the American classic To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and will include elements such as theme, symbolism, and character development, as well as some of the notable literary passages in the novel. Come and join us for a robust discussion of this well-loved, Pulitzer Prize winning American Classic.

Senior Games

Join the competitions!


Senior Games feature friendly competitions for all fitness levels. Sports enthusiasts age 50 and older are encouraged to participate. If you enjoy athletic camaraderie and recreation, register for the Senior Games! Sign up now!


All participants will receive a T-Shirt and are invited to attend the Torch Run as well as the Celebration of Athletes, which includes a catered meal.

Fridays, February 23 – March 29 (6 weeks), 1 – 3:30 pm Continuing beginners and beginning intermediate students further develop their skills in watercolor.

Music

Fiddle Tunes Jams

Wednesday, 12 noon - 2 pm

Feel free to bring your lunch and join us for some toe-tapping fun, or simply enjoy a mid-day break! Our Fiddle Tune Jams friends are back, with local musicians on the ukulele, banjo, fiddle, stand up base and more. Musicians are welcome to bring your own instruments and join the jam.


Coffeehouse Concerts

Tallahassee Senior Center’s popular Lunchtime Coffeehouse Concerts showcase a variety of accomplished musicians in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Whether you’re a fan of folk, blues, or something in between, our concerts will provide the perfect lunchtime escape.

Community Resources

AARP Tax Aide This year, AARP is offering both In-Person and Drop-off Service. With the convenient drop off service, you will leave your tax documents with an IRS-certified volunteer who will prepare your return. During a second visit, you will work together to finalize your return, file it and leave with a printed copy of the return and your original documents.

Property Tax Exemptions Filing

The Leon County Property Appraiser’s Office will be hosting a special tax exemption filing opportunity for seniors:

Saturday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to noon

315 S Calhoun St., Tallahassee - 3rd Floor


Leon County homeowners age 65 or older as of January 1, who meet certain income requirements, may qualify for money-saving property tax exemptions! The March 1 filing deadline is swiftly approaching.


The team will be available to answer any questions you have and to accept applications for any of the exemptions administered by our office.
