Do You Need to Take a Required Minimum Distribution from Your IRA?
As you plan for your IRA Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), you may discover that you don’t actually need all of the money the government requires you to withdraw. One smart option is to use part of your distribution to support a charitable cause through an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
A QCD allows individuals age 70½ or older to make direct, tax‑free transfers - up to $111,000 in 2026 - from a Traditional or Roth IRA to qualified 501(c)(3) charities, such as the Tallahassee Senior Citizens Foundation.
Key Benefits of a QCD:
- Counts toward your RMD
- Excluded from taxable income, which may help reduce your overall tax burden
- Supports a charitable organization you care about
Important Requirements:
- Funds must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to the charity.
- The distribution cannot pass through your personal account.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to use your RMD while potentially lowering your tax liability, a QCD can be a powerful tool - and a generous gift to your community. Sample IRA Charitable Distribution Letter
Talk with your IRA administrator to get started.
