Supporting Seniors

Do You Need to Take a Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA?

As you plan your IRA Required Minimum Distributions, you may find that you do not need all of the money the government is requiring you to take.

Consider using a portion for a charitable gift with an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). The QCD allows individuals age 70½ and older to make direct transfers, up to $111,000 (for 2026), tax-free from their Traditional or Roth IRA to 501(c)(3) charities such as the Tallahassee Senior Citizens Foundation. The funds must go directly from the IRA custodian to the charity, not through the individual, and count toward the donor's Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while excluding the distribution from taxable income.  Sample IRA Charitable Distribution Letter

It’s a win-win for you and the Senior Center!

Talk with your IRA administrator to get started.
